I bought a new desk a few days ago- it was a long over-due need. You can go to Portland Craigslist to see what the old one looked like.
This has prompted a tremendous end-of-year cleaning, re-organizing, of everything in the office. What a relief. I love it.
One of my favorite things has been going through old bills, and seeing how a couple of years ago how many times we received “Final Urgent Shut-off Notice.” And now we don’t. Growing this business we skated the edge for quite awhile, but we kept learning, growing, and persisting, and now we don’t get those notices anymore. Ahhh…
I don’t know who thought up the idea that if you somehow don’t go from start-up to $100K in 90 days or less, something is wrong with you. Well, there isn’t anything wrong with you. There wasn’t anything wrong with me. What I take from this look to the past is:
humility
gratitude
the value of persistence
the willingness to grow
the importance of managing risk
Maybe I’ll write more about some of those later, but for right now, I’m just basking. I love my new desk.

Hi Mark,
Congratulations on your expansion!
I was thinking that you might want to point out to potential purchasers that this desk has good feng shui. Your desk will have taken on the energy of your business – this expansion and success energy will support its new owner. You do mention something about his but a ‘success’ desk is a good investment!
You need to be careful of using used desks for this reason – you never know how much struggle, bankruptcy etc energy it has taken on.
(Similar for used beds!)
