It’s not a secret that Heart of Business had a bit of a bumpy year this past year. After ten straight years of growth, at times spectacular growth, we hit some big bumps.
After ten years I had a deep inner confidence that we would get through the bumps, but I have to admit, I didn’t know how.
How did we get through the bumps? Did I hunker down and hope for the best? Not really.
I got help, and a lot of it. I asked for help from:
- Coaches
- Spiritual Teachers
- Friends
- Community
- Clients
- My Mastermind
- Family
- Our larger network
I received advice and coaching. I deepened my spiritual practice. At times I freaked out. And finally, I gained some insights into what had happened.
Because it wasn’t “the economy” (we had continued growing right through the economic downturn in 2008-2010). It wasn’t a sea-change in the market place (although there had been some important changes.)
It was just a couple of bad strategic choices about our company. That was it. Reverse those choices, implement the changes, take into account some differences, and we’ve bounced back quite strongly.
Really? Was that it?
Not Exactly
People like to make out how easy it is to be successful. Just one or two magic things and -poof- everything works.
The truth is that we had a lot of really strong systems and relationships in place already. We had a lot that was working. The business could withstand a few bad decisions. WIth the underlying strength, we got back on track quickly.
Without that underlying strength, would we have made it? I’m not sure. It would’ve been a lot harder. And we wouldn’t have bounced back as quickly.
Maybe It’s Harder Than It Needs to Be
