Are You Toothpaste?

Jennifer Louden is sharing in her blog her very vulnerable and authentic search for ‘what do I do?’ It’s been inspiring and a real honor to follow such a sincere seeker in asking the tough questions of her heart- her dialogue with herself, with God, with her fans and supporters- has been one of the threads that has kept me honest with my own heart these past weeks.

Today is Easter Sunday, and it’s Pesach (Passover). A few days ago was the Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) birthday. All three of these events point to both death and rebirth. Slavery and liberation. Passing from a narrow place (mitzrayim) to a wider place.

And the journey isn’t always easy. Forty years in the desert? Not easy.

Jennifer is trying to gain clarity on who she is, and what she’s about, with the hope that it can sustain her as well as the people she is serving. She asks “I wonder if:
I ignore it and keep doing a little bit of this, a little of that? Is it simply me saying “I hate all that talk of platforms and branding, I am not toothpaste!” I will just keep doing what I love and that will be fine?
Or is that childish?”

For myself, I have sometimes struggled with being more or less deep with the message that has nourished me so much. The message of Unity: the Love, Peace, Mercy, Freedom and Justice all come from the same Source, and can only manifest together, not separately. I bring this message in the worldly context of business because I love business so much- it’s just fun- and because I see business and commerce being the area of human life that is moving powerfully on this planet. Sometimes powerful in the Name of Love, more often in the name of heedlessness.

Jennifer has brought this message in the context of women’s struggles to care for themselves, to rest into a deep sense of comfort- with themselves, with the world.

My reason in writing this is to say that ‘rebranding’ yourself has to do with the vulnerability of seeing the people you want to care for intimately, standing on a platform of a simple message and vision of what is possible for the individual, and in creating a strategy for their care, comfort and guidance that they can rest into.

And it all starts with asking the right questions of yourself and your heart and of the Divine.

If you are struggling with this, instead of searching for the answers, start searching for the question. It is my experience that questions are always twinned with their answers. If the answers for ‘branding’ or ‘identifying’ your business aren’t soothing your heart- try changing the questions. Ask your heart for the questions, instead of the answers.

Spread the love
