A Brand New Look–No Longer Sucking Eggs

When I published Creating Heart-Centered Websites back in 2007, I critiqued my own website as part of it- parts of it worked, but the banner pretty much sucked eggs. I used it as an example of perfection is not necessary- you can suck eggs and your business can still work.

Well, it was time to stop sucking eggs. πŸ™‚ (I need to drop that metaphor, I’m just not enjoying it- I can’t imagine you are, either.)

So- ta-da! What do you think?

Because it’s a brand-new design, for the first week, I only want two kinds of comments:

1) Comments along the lines of “Oh wow- I love it!” After it settles in, I’m happy to take in thoughtful critiques and improvement ideas for the next iteration, or even just tweaking on what we’ve already got.

2) Help with finding any links that take you to pages from the old website. At this point the website has more than a couple of hundred pages, and we hired Adam to only port over top the new design what was necessary to get live- we’ll be porting over the rest ourselves. If you click a link, and you see that old fuzzy picture of my head in the banner- please let us know asap!

Please celebrate with us that we’ve got a new website up. Whew!

I have to put in a plug for Adam Kayce.

He did this- he managed us through the transition to a WordPress-powered design, he helped us through our design questions, issues, thoughts, and he was patient with the intense chaos that erupted around our adoption process, which threw everything off-schedule.

Need a website design? Talk to Adam.

Need to know what to put in your website? Check out Creating Heart-Centered Websites.

But, mostly, just celebrate this with us. It’s been LONG overdue.

Spread the love

  1. Congratulations!

I love the warm inviting colours, and the nice simple navigation at the top, and the banner gives me a strange compulsion to go barefoot.

I know you’re not looking for ‘constructive criticism’ just yet. Still… any chance you might fit your photo in somewhere? I’d love to see it. (Maybe one of both of you… or all four of you? πŸ™‚ )

  2. mark, I really love it. beautiful and natural, grounded and simple. Good job Adam! I like the WP template, simple, what is it?
The sun logo is wonderful too. You are in all of this joy-filled birthing and rebirthing energy- it’s the best! Am about to rebirth my membership site, IntuitiveBodySanctuary- trying to add some major new value via new features. Since it’s launch in May, i really appreciate how alive the Tent is- it’s harder than it looks to keep all of the community connected and contributing.

  3. @Hilary- thanks! And, you know, we made the decision to remove my photo from the banner. I’ve wanted to for a long time, and Heart of Business is evolving to be more than just me.

You can still see my mug on the About page- and Real Soon Now we’ll be adding the bios of the other team members with their faces- Kate Williams and Jim Brosseau, as well as Holly and the boys. πŸ™‚

@Lisa- Thanks! It’s no template- at least, I don’t believe it is. If it is a template, it’s been way modified beyond everything, because we’ve had complete control over every little detail in terms of the look.

And yes- I’m glad you’re appreciating the Tent- I’m excited about your membership site, and it does take a bit of oomph to really get a membership site going, so that it has it’s own momentum- and yet preserves a culture of compassion, love and caring.

  4. Mark, it looks terrific. I know you and Adam have been working on this for a while – and it’s worth all the time and effort!

Very warm, welcoming, and clean. Yay!

  5. Woohoo! Love it!

New site, new additions to the family! How’s that for some new life in the middle of Winter! I’m feeling all shiny and bright now (my mood, not my body!)

Do let us all know when you’re good for the feedback though – you know we’re all dying to chat up the new look!

  6. @James- thank you! Really, I’m happy for feedback almost any time. It’s just good to know that we won’t really be changing any of the fundamental design aspects for a looong while. πŸ™‚ At least six months. πŸ˜‰

  7. The site looks like ‘you’ (if a website can do that). I like it a lot. Especially the easy-peasy spam protection.
