Havi, one of our friends, posted about resonant pricing, and how she had adapted our Your Right Price exercise to her and Naomi’s own ends. It’s an amazing little exercise, and in the spirit of generosity, I thought I’d post the pdf for anyone to download.
The design of the pdf is a few years old- I’d love to update it and prettify it, but the information is rock-solid. It’s an excerpt from the larger Guidebook, which has what used to be all and is now just many of our foundational teachings in it.
What you’ll need to use it.
You’ll need some way to go inside and check your heart. I have a method called the Remembrance, which is a Sufi spiritual practice that anyone can use. It’s very simple, and you can get our free workbook that has a complete how-to of it here: Getting to the Core of Your Business. (It also includes the fabulous Unveiling Your Jewel exercise, which is finding your uniqueness, your USP, in an unassailable, non-gimicky way.
If you don’t use the Remembrance, use another method of accessing your intuition, your heart, your deep knowing. It’s also incredibly helpful to do the exercise in a group. As Havi described in her post, and as I did in the comments to her post, it really builds your confidence to hear other people reflect your resonant price back to you. You can learn to trust it that way.
Just my gift to you, prompted by Havi’s wonderful description.
And, as a ‘nother little gift, here’s a teaching I did on why buying or selling something is NOT a transaction, and why it’s okay to “sell” something as sacred and beautiful as the amazing work you do.
Sufi Teaching on Pricing (mp3). (An excerpt from a past Opening the Moneyflow Course.)
Enjoy! And let me know if you have any questions, problems, or pushbacks. It IS pretty wacky spiritual stuff.

Ohmygoodness, Mark. This is so sweet and generous. Which is so typical.
I already owe so much to you for having brought your wacky pricing exercise into my life … thanks for sharing it with all the awesome people who read my blog. Yay! This is huge.
And yeah, bring on the wacky. I mean, at a certain point it’s sort of like, “okay, whatever works …”
There could be perfectly good non-spirit-ey explanations for why this stuff works too, but when you’re in “I need help right now” mode, none of that matters in the moment.
Absolutely- yay for wacky. And, as far as non-spirit-ey explanations- what isn’t spirit? y’know what I mean? 😉
Thanks for initiating all of this. Truly a wonderful post you put up there for the world. There is healing in your words, y’know.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
@Laura- you are so welcome! I’d love to hear your reactions, if it hit the spot for you.
Hey Original Mark,
Here’s my pal Margaret who does gardening. Just the other day she managed to snip a plant before its time, and long story short the client has a big black spot on the ground where green and purple should be.
The plant will grow back. It will look fantastic next spring! But right now, it’s a blot of ugly on an otherwise pretty landscape.
Margaret is saying ouch, I’d better not charge for that day’s work–or give a discount–or pay something else back. I’m thinking… huh, the client is paying for Margaret’s whole being of work here, including the mistakes… but there should be a way to make this right…
I don’t know. Have you written something on “how to recover from things you’ve botched for the client”?
I’m back to loving that Right Pricing though. MMM-hmmm. And Havi’s articles are always a treat.
Oops! Wotta mistake! And yet, not so tragic.
The big thing, of course, is for Margaret to face her own feelings of shame and guilt that are cramping her style so much. Empathy first, of course, because it’s painful to make a mistake when you care so deeply.
And then gaining a deeper heart-perspective on the situation. I would probably want to ‘make good’ in that situation, too. And yet, it’s not helpful or healing to do it from a place of abject guilt, instead of a genuine desire to give.
The key here is to take time with the bad feelings, and really look, look with the heart, and ask to be shown the ‘true’ mistake. Because the mistake we think we’ve made is not usually the real mistake. Strange, but true.
The Cleaning Up Mistakes in Business workbook handles this kind of situation nicely. Normally one wins it through the Remembrance Challenge. But, if she’s needing it prontissimo, you can email me if you don’t already have it, so you can share it with her.
Wow–wonderful response there, Original. Forwarded to Margaret with thanks.
Hey, you’re welcome Extra-Crispy. Always glad to help someone keep from slicing themselves open with unnecessary guilt.
Thank you kindly – your downloads are very generous. Much appreciation for your work that found me at the most perfect time.
@Jen- Glad the timing has worked out so perfectly! 🙂 You most welcome.
This is so perfectly timed, it has to be divine intervention!
I designed a course and checked with my body, soul and intuition as to what feels right for the price.
I mentioned it on a social networking site and immediately I received the nastiest message about how ridiculous my price is for what I am doing–about how much free stuff is out there on this topic.
I thought I could see her finger wagging at me as she admonished with, “you should be ashamed of yourself.”
But I’ve listened to enough people say that this will happen. Just be you and go for it–so I did.
Today there is some interest in the program from former clients (exactly who i was hoping would be interested) and they don’t seem to mind paying what I am asking.
Thank you
@Kathleen- I love divine intervention. 🙂 And, isn’t it amazing how people stand in judgement? That poor woman must’ve been really caught up in fears and reactions to wag her finger at you. Poor you! Poor her!
And I’m so glad you stood with your heart on this one.
Great ariticle! Its making me rethink the way I price things in my own business.
Cheers!

Hey Mark,
thanks for this great way of finding the price. I already had issues about that – feeling in between fear of being “too expensive” on the one hand and compromising my own finances on the other hand.
This week I tried resonant pricing for two prices. I even came up with a surprising “generic price” that didn’t feel quite right for two of my clients, so I re-did it with them in mind. I communicated these prices and felt good about it. Yesterday then the first accepted it without any discussion and is happy to work with me for some sessions. And I’m feeling good about it, too.
I will do more resonant pricing with other areas in the next day, because there’s more price-communication ahead …
Thank you so much!
Dirk
Glad it was so immediately helpful, Dirk! What a great story- congrats on the clients.
