Making Videos – more tips from Jason

andrea-leeBefore we get to making videos, I have to wish a belated happy birthday (it was yesterday) to my friend, Andrea Lee. (That’s her to the right.) Andrea has been involved with coaching since the early days, and has been a significant wise, ethical and smart-as-heck voice in the coaching and business world. She’s a gem.

She’s also releasing a new book, “We Need to Talk: Your Guide to Challenging Business Conversations.” To celebrate her birthday, for each book sold through June 5, she’s donating a copy to various nonprofits who support entrepreneurs.

Although I haven’t seen a copy yet (I’ve been too busy packing up to move to New York- she’s sending a copy to meet me there.) I have no doubt it’s going to be fantastic, based on everything else I’ve seen from her.

It’s about how to speak powerfully and kindly from the heart in the most trying of business circumstances like negotiations, partnerships and even firing team members (when needed).

Happy birthday, Andrea, and congratulations on your new book!

Now, let’s get to Jason’s video about video-making.

Our star practitioner Jason Stein’s last video was 5 1/2 tips on making videos, which people really responded to. Because video is such a powerful medium, and because it can be a really tender and challenging thing to take on, Jason wanted to give you some more support.

I will say you don’t *have* to make video. Almost every one of Jason’s contributions is a video, and most of Yollana’s are as well. I still do a lot of writing, with more occasional videos. You can do it how you want to.

And, if you haven’t tried it yet, it’s worth playing with. Your readers, your audience, can get a real taste of who you are, and develop trust and connection faster and easier with video. And, you might surprise yourself!

Here’s Jason’s video. It’s all about telling a story.

Jason chose to share a big story in his life, yet stories can be big or small, and still be impactful. What story do you have to tell?

p.s. The summer/winter doldrums

It’s June! With the change of seasons (summer for the northern hemispherers, winter for those Down Under) can come a real change in the pace of life. And any time life pace changes, it can throw you off track.

Not only that, you may realize, Holy Moly, the year is almost half done!

Two things to consider:

1) Hands on help with one of our individual practitioners- Jason, Yollana, Lincoln, or Steve. Getting individual help is a bigger financial commitment, and it has the benefits of being extremely focused on you and what you need. It’s not always the best choice, but when it IS the best choice, you can really fly far and fast.

Take a look and see who you resonate with best.

2) Don’t know what you need? Get a Readiness Assessment. It’s free and we seriously love doing these with you.

You tell us a bit about you and your business. You watch a video so you can gain some insights for yourself about where your business is. Then you get on the phone or Skype with one of us and we talk to help you get clear about what you really need. It’s fantastically helpful.

I’m a film maker, and currently I’m not using my skills in my business, crazy but true. I need to jump in and do it. Thanks for the encouragement.

    1. Rose,

Please, please, please start using your video skills in your business. The interwebs needs more positive story telling.

  3. Hey Jason, Thank you for the inspiration. And this is the second time I saw your video. I cried both times, even though I know Rachel said “You know I will!”. Anyhoo, I’ve worked w. digital story telling in the past, it is a powerful medium. I hope to engage it in a meaningful way for my biz!
    Peace. Meg

    1. Thanks Meg. The internet and business is calling for more video that is impactful, let me know if you choose to get on board.

  5. That was just 5 minutes and 15 seconds and I’ve got tear running my face and I feel that much closer to you! Thank you for sharing your hearts with us.
I’d love to know more about the behind the scenes – how to set up lighting, camera, editing software, copyrights, etc.

  6. Oh, that was so touching! I’m inspired to make a video; I’m hoping my son will film me on his iPhone (might have to get one of my own as he’s making great videos with his). You certainly made the point about having a good story. That one’s hard to beat! Thanks Jason, you keep reminding me that business can be fun.
