Quick Note: Today is the deadline to start in September, next Monday, for either Foundations1: Clients and Money or Foundations2: Expand Your Reach. Super affordable in-depth programs aimed at the first two stages of business development.
I have to admit that the past couple of weeks I haven’t been very motivated to work. This crazy, workaholic culture would have us jump on ourselves for these feelings. “Lazy! Incompetent! Get going already!”
But that’s not true. That is NEVER true. There is no such thing as lazy.
It’s the very end of August, and the last two weeks I’ve felt the end of summer coming. In the full and beautiful blooming of everything around us, I know that autumn is just around the corner.
And yes, I’ve been working. Quite a lot. But not quite as much as the crazy voices in my head have been telling me to. Instead, I’ve taken some afternoons off to go swimming with my family. I’ve lazily sauntered in to my office mid-morning when I don’t have an appointment.
There is only so much productivity we have in us. When that’s done, it’s done.
You want your business to succeed? Honor your rhythms. Rest when you need to rest. Then work hard, full out, when the spirit is there in your heart and your limbs.
Will you have times when you have to push a little? Yes, you will. But don’t do it by bullying yourself. Instead, honor the need for the push. And honor the need for the rest afterwards.
We just wrapped up registration for The Heart of Your Business, and I was moved and jazzed to see over 300 people register. Because of smart systems and learnings from past courses, our amazing Director of Education Steve Mattus decreased the workload tremendously. But, there was still a LOT of work to be done by the team last week.
There are some exciting projects on Steve’s plate, on all of our plates, but we had to honor the push. And when the push was done, we had to rest, and those projects had to wait.
I’m going to repeat myself: if you want your business to succeed, rest when you need to rest. Honor your rhythms.
Because after the rest… WHOOSH! You’re ready to go. 🙂

You hear people talk about their dreams, but I don’t like that word in this context. I do agree that is good to have dreams, but don’t confuse dreams with visualizing success. When you are visualizing success you are doing more than daydreaming. You are actually thinking about ways to get there.
