I am SO grateful to have a team… this week we’re entering the home stretch in getting our new home at White Hawk Ecovillage built, hopefully about 3 weeks away from moving in, but have hit a snag involving the kitchen cabinets and window that may need to be moved! (Move! A window?!)
Thankfully it can all be done gracefully, but it’s a little alarming and frustrating to face that as the homeowner. It’s the sinking feeling that comes up, until our builder assured us that yes, it can be done, and it probably won’t even throw off our move-in schedule.
Crazy miracle-workers, those builders.
Anyway, my head is full of that, and so I was grateful to have Steve step in this week.
Steve Mattus is our Director of Education and a coach practitioner here, and today he dives into the messy world of pain-point marketing. So often mis-used and traumatizing… do you really need to do it?
Only 4 minutes, and well worth it.
How about for you? What’s your relationship to pain-point marketing? What did you learn from Steve’s perspective?
3 Programs Start on Monday! Registration deadline tomorrow
The big question is, as Steve asked, where are you now in your business? What is uncomfortable about where you are? And where are you trying to get to?
If you’re in start-up, or just making very little money, bringing in very few clients, that’s super uncomfortable. Scary, even. Then we recommend you start with our Foundations1: Clients and Money program. 5 months of compassionate and effective support.

If you’ve been at it awhile, and have some clients and some flow, but it’s just not consistent and you’re not quite making it, that’s another kind of uncomfortable. You probably feel like you *should* be doing better. Then we recommend Foundations2: Expand Your Reach. Six months of in-depth support on the critical pieces your business needs.

Finally, if you’ve actually done pretty well, but you’ve hit a wall, in terms of capacity, or in terms of money, and you just can’t see to get past it, Ugh! Frustrating! Just when things feel like they *should* be fun, they aren’t. Then you’re probably needing Accelerating Growth.

Don’t try to be further along than you are. It’s okay to be where you are and, let us pick you up and carry you forward.
Unsure what you need? Need some reassurance?
Why not take a free Readiness Assessment? In it, you’ll learn exactly where your business is in it’s development, and gain great clarity on what you’re actually needing, as opposed to just guessing.

Great video, Steve, and I love the Uber analogy!
As a species we have the capacity to ignore and tolerate an awful lot of pain and hobble along regardless – whilst being totally restricted by it. I believe a crucial part of our role as healers is to create that space of safety where we can encourage clients to examine their pain and to understand that they’re not alone with it, that there’s nothing wrong with them, and that there is a way to liberate themselves from the restrictions.
My Uber cab has my clients’ pain written all over it – not to press on the pain points and be the source of their pain, simply to let them know that this is a vehicle that understands where they’re coming from, and can facilitate healing of their particular pain.
Thanks, Linda!
Love how your cab let’s people know that their getting in the right car…. you really “get” them. Awesome. 🙂
Yes, excellent topic and video, Steve. Prior to reclaiming my artist self, I worked as a professional organizer for 15 years, and I could only start with my clients from where they were on their journey.
Even if for some of my clients, it was a very painful place to be, it allowed me to better understand them and offer better solutions to their organizing dilemmas.
Right on, Catherine! Thank you!
Excellent distinctions Steve!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom on this!
Thanks, Laurel!
Love this message and place of exploration, Steve. So, so important…and so at the core of what makes Heart of Business courses and teachings different from much of what’s out there.
There’s something incredibly, deeply healing about being truly seen and heard—and being held in that place, with an abundance of empathy and compassion, before walking, hand-in-hand, forward.
It’s true. When I learned that marketing could be a place of healing, my world changed. Thanks for sharing, Dana.
Beautiful, Steve. Thank you!!!
Thanks Kate! 🙂
So much marketing seems to be manipulative, especially what you find online. I loved your perspective and the comment that it feels gross as it really does.
