When you can’t get to spiritual practice for your business

Mark SilverSpiritual connection is a funny thing. You can access it in a moment, and yet, in my experience, it takes time, significant time, to be really deep in the awareness of Love.

I know people who meditate or do practices an hour or two, or more, a day, as in sit on the cushion and meditate, or Remember, or whatever your practice is.

There have been times I’ve done that, and it’s an amazing feeling. But with life, it can be hard, challenging, and even feel impossible to take it on. So I don’t.

I’m not that person. And maybe you aren’t either. So what do you do?

There are three things I do that keep spiritual practice present for me on a daily basis. They work for me, keep my heart nourished, and my access to guidance and love consistent.

Chanting/Singing: There is a daily practice in my Sufi lineage, in most Sufi lineages, called Al Wird, translated as “The Watering Hole.” It’s a series of 4 chants that clean the 4 layers of the heart. Those in our Community have done this with me in our every-other-month Virtual Retreats.

That chanting can be done at any time. I find myself chanting while doing chores, or while driving, or taking a walk. There are other sacred phrases that I use in addition to Al Wird. Really helpful! And the dishes get cleaned, and the firewood gets stacked at the same time.

With Others: In my work at Heart of Business, I’m fortunate in that I lead Remembrance fairly often, for clients, for classes, for our Community. But, even if you’re not leading, you can find a buddy to do practice with. You can have a set time during the day, for instance, and meet on the phone for 15 minutes and lead each other in practices.

I’ve written about this before, more than ten years ago. I call it having a drinking buddy.

Even if you don’t have an actual someone, you can use recordings to support your practice. It doesn’t have to be just you, alone. Many of our clients use the more than one hundred 15 minute guided Remembrances to support a daily practice.

Here’s one for today: The Heart’s Pull Toward What’s True

Retreating: You may not be taking an hour or two each day to do spiritual practice, but you can go on retreat from time to time.

Whether it’s a longer, in-person guided retreat like the one I’m leading in November, or a personal retreat with some guidance like they offer at Clear Sky, or even the 24 hour Virtual Retreats we do in Community every other month, the experience of going deep for an extended period of time makes a HUGE difference on how easily you can access the depths of your heart.

It’s too easy for the whirlwind of life to obscure our thirst for spiritual nourishment. I want to encourage you to make spiritual practice something that is woven into your every day, making each step a sacred step on your life’s journey. When each step is sacred, it fortifies and nourishes you for the next step.

p.s. Our Websites Offer needs some clarity

A number of people have written to ask us, “Am I one of the first 20 so I can get a personal website review?” The short answer to them is: “It depends. You could be.”

See, the personal website review isn’t for the first 20 people who buy (and that’s good, because we’re already past that). It’s for the first 20 people to request one, after they purchase. To request one, you have to have taken on the Heart-Centered Websites teachings and implemented them on your website, at least to some extent.

It’s not an incentive to get you to buy faster… it’s an incentive to get you to -implement- more quickly. To take on making your website more effective, and not put it off for a year.

So yes, whether you were the first person to buy, or if you’re the very last person at the end of the deadline Thursday, you are eligible to ask for a personal, video website review. 🙂

There are a number of other juicy things, and the price is going up after Thursday, so take a look and get yours:

p.s. Do you need to dive deep, get the jewels from your own heart, and then take them out into the world?

Please join me and a small group of compassionate, heart-centered business owners for a business-changing, heart-healing retreat this November. The Heart Sessions will be a deep dive, with a combination of spiritual practice, deep listening, and business strategy and coaching.

The delicious food and the amazingly gorgeous country-side that is upstate New York provide just the nourishment your heart and body needs to do this work.
