It’s *really* easy for someone to look successful from the outside. Which is why I like to be honest about what’s happening for us, so you get the raw truth of what it’s like to be in business.
On one hand Heart of Business is doing amazingly well. We’ve been profitable and developing for 15 years. We have a fantastic base of appreciative clients and ravings fans. We believe strongly in what we’re doing, and have been careful with our integrity, so we feel really clean about everything we offer.
On the other hand, it’s been bumpy all along. Most recently we had big plans to clean up our systems, focus on marketing and outreach, and in general help the business to develop.
But things keep getting in the way, big things and little things, slowing us down considerably. Just like they do for you, no doubt.
For example, two years ago, our family decided to move across the country. And Steve Mattus decided to move from Colorado to Illinois. Plus, the bookkeeping company we had been using, that had been stellar and praised by our accountants, went into an inexplicable spiral, then disappeared on us, and we were left with a strangely overwhelming and confusing mess that took months to clean up. (Thank you, Cathy, for your heroic rescue efforts and ongoing work here!)
The result? All of those big plans were mostly sidelined for TWO YEARS! ARGHHH! Not what we had hoped… hahaha.
So, that’s the deeper background.
Then, to bring you to the present moment, after a really successful launch of Heart of Money, with 450 people registered, we knew we next wanted to run our Foundations3: Accelerating Growth program that we created last year.
In 2016 we had a solid group of people enroll. We thought we’d have a similar response this year. Perfect. We could do some real good, and it would help with our cashflow for a new position we want to hire.
Also, we expected people would want the home study program, both because it’s cheaper and more accessible, and also because some people just like to learn that way.
We get questions related to F3: Accelerating Growth material such as business model, systems and teams/assistants all the time, so we figured our clients would want it.
We felt really confident about this. We prayed. We did Remembrance. We checked in. And… mostly crickets.
We had a very small response to the live program (so far). A solid small group, but still, about 1/3 of the response we had last year.
The biggest surprise? No home study sales yet. Not a single one.
What?????
The team, Steve, Cathy, Holly and I, have been running through the reasons why this could possibly be: we did a miserable job marketing, it’s tax season, our U.S. clients are still paralyzed by the results of the presidential election, all of our emails to folks are going to the Google promotions folder…
