[VIDEO] How to get started (when you aren’t)

Whether you’re brand new, or you’ve been at this business thing for awhile, we’ve all encountered the issue where something that needs to get done… we just don’t get to. Sometimes it’s a BIG project, and sometimes it just feels big, and actually is quite small.

Beating yourself up isn’t the answer. Steve Mattus, our Director of Education, Community Manager and a star practitioner, is fantastic at this, and shares some wisdom that he uses with his clients to get them started… and done.

Did this help? How did it touch you? Are you ready to get started?

With hugs and big gratitude,

Every Act of Business Can Be An Act of Love.

p.s. Nourishment + Accountability

Our Community is a special place, one that many haven’t seen anywhere else. It’s a safe, compassionate space, where most business spaces are competitive, filled with promotions and frenetic. And yet people get things done.

And they get nourished, spiritually and emotionally. And they get things done. And they get nourished… both things.

I want to invite you into our Community. Take a look:

p.p.s. How to say what you do

One of the topics that people struggle with most is how in the heck do you say what you do, without eyes glazing over? How do you actually say something so someone says, “Hey, that’s me! I’m interested! Tell me more…”

Our clients are astonished to find exactly that happening when they apply the teachings from our One Compelling Sentence program. No hype, no “marketing speak” and yet it works. Strange… and compelling. 😉

  1. Hello Steve

My, you look cute in your bow tie! I’m very grateful to both you and Mark for all the help you’ve given me on Foundation 1, started before I’d made up my mind what I was going to do and what I was going to call it. I owe much of the format and the thinking to the work I did with HoB and now I’ve got my first four clients, it’s like a dream coming true. But you are right – there have been times when I went down a track of thinking “I should do this…and this…” to make the business work. It started out complicated but I’ve reined it in. And I will come back to HoB for more support in a little while. At the moment I’m on the galloping lion, with people saying hey, she’s good, look how successful she is and me saying how the hell did I get on this lion? Please keep videoing Steve, it’s lovely to see you and hear your gentle but always great advice. Love and big hugs from Sue xx

    1. Oh wow… thank you Sue! This touches my heart. (Sorry it took so long to reply.)
Reining it in is not easy to do – especially when you’re newer in business… but it sure does pay off. I loved the metaphor about the galloping lion! Congrats on that… and hang on!!!! I appreciate the invite to continue videoing… I will definitely do so. 🙂 . Keep up the good work!

  2. I thought this video was perfectly timed. Last evening I began a marketing letter offering to support a group of doctors here in the vicinity and had been putting off writing it for months. So after a call, I began it and finished it off today. It really is true what you say in the video – we need support and we need encouragement from people who care and who live in their hearts and know how to do business; the people in this community.

Without that support yesterday, I would have let that letter unwritten for who knows how many more months. One tiny step at a time with our friends! Thanks so much Steve. And, you are just so sweet with that bowtie!!!

    1. Congrats on getting that completed, Daniela. The only way for folks to get the support we offer to let them know we have the support to share. You’re so right – very often, we just need a little encouragement along the way.

One tiny step at a time…. we’ll walk our path.

About the bowtie – it was the first one I’ve ever tied myself! What a fun thing!

  3. Hi Steve, this is brilliant, thanks so much. I think that it’s a sign that I could benefit from narrowing down my focus, that the question I am asking after listening to you is “holy cow, I have so much to do, do I have time to slow down?” ! (because it does take time to reposition and refocus.)

    1. I SO hear you, Linda!!! You’re right… it does take effort to reposition and focus. And, that can be done just a little tweak at a time. I wonder what step could move you in that direction, instead of taking it on as a big project? Are there small steps that could be taken slowly over time? Probably a smart way to do it, anyway, right?

So happy this was helpful for you!

  4. I like what you are saying however it still depends on the frame of mind I am in. Today, it seems do-able and straight-forward, but on another day there is a fog in my mind and the compulsion to distract myself. Do you have anything to say about those days? It can be so subtle.

    1. Hi David! Great question – thanks for asking.
YES… some days, there is a fog, and that deserves some care.

When there’s fog – there could be a number of things going on, and what I’ve found is that doing some inquiry around the fog can be helpful. Sometimes, we have the fog because what we really need is rest or self-care. Sometimes we have the fog because, as I mentioned in the video, we don’t know what to do, or how to do it, and so the fog is simply a lack of clarity. Sometimes the fog is because we’re doing something we believe we’re “supposed” to do, and in our hearts, we really don’t know why. Sometimes, the fog is because we’re disconnected from the Divine.

So… when there’s fog, and we use distraction as a way to cope – be merciful with yourself. Do some inquiry about the fog and what you’re mind, body or heart is really yearning for. Don’t force yourself to soldier through the fog – that’s not helpful.

In this situation – when we *think* that getting started is taking action on the thing we’re wanting to accomplish, what “getting started” actually means is inquiring about the fog. THAT’s getting started too. Because one the fog clears, then we can take much more aligned and inspired action.

It’s okay to be foggy. It is subtle, and it’s there to point towards what you’re needing – it’s not to be in your way.

      Does this help?

  5. I think most people, myself included, take on projects that are way to big to handle right from the start, not so much because they don’t want to limit themselves, but because everytime things start getting a little hard they are distracted by “the next thing.”
