[Video] I’m not setting goals for the year

Every year, as part of my Brain Trust (another word for “mastermind group”), I set annual goals.
When I went to do that process for 2019, I felt no juice for it. Nothing at all. Rather than push through, I thought I would check in with my heart. And realized I wasn’t going to set goals.
Well, that’s not *entirely* true. But still, I did something different. Here’s a short video, 2 minutes, in case you’re not for feeling the juice for setting goals, either.

So, how about you? Does a “stop-doing” list appeal to you? What would you like to stop doing, and what difference would that make for 2019?

With love,
Mark Silver, M.Div.

p.s. How about stop going it alone? Or stop spending way too much on business development programs?

For developing your business, often the choice seems to be between either going it completely alone, with maybe books or occasional classes, or spending a LOT of money on business development programs that promise the moon and the stars… but do they deliver?

After nearly twenty years in this field, working with thousands of business owners, I’m offering you something different. A Learning Community.

It includes coaching and feedback. It includes in-depth nitty-gritty business learning. It includes a generous, open-hearted community. And it includes spiritual support and resources.

And you name the price you pay. Seriously.

It works. Our clients our happy. See what they have to say.

Join now for the retreat in February.

Every other month I lead a 24 hour Virtual Retreat to go deep with your business, and the next one is February 8.

What’s more, we’ll be spending early February, including the retreat, with a healing focus on Power. That’s right, I’ve noticed how many people need a healthy relationship with Divine power to move their business forward with strength and integrity.

So that’s what we’re doing. I hope you’ll join us. Plus everything else. 🙂

  1. Many of us must be vibing on this wavelength because I came to the exact same conclusion this year – I am NOT doing my usual annual review and intention-setting process I usually complete around this time. As great as it is (I could launch a whole workshop or retreat on the process, and might!), it seems unnecessary this year. So instead, I’m simplifying.

I figure it this way: by now the universe knows what I want and need. I’ve made those intentions abundantly clear for several years running. I’ve even written a two-page “ideal life vision”; if even half of it comes true I’ll be living my dreams.

What I AM doing is 1) connecting more often and more deeply to source 2) by doing #1, I’m staying in the flow of life, so my intentions are manifesting without me having to take much action and 3) creating space for the new. So yes, I’m all in for the “stop doing” list.

How this translates in my business is I am NOT going back to all the same conferences/events I’ve normally spoken at. I am NOT trying to do everything myself – I hired an assistant for marketing tasks. I am NOT doing the same old actions and expecting different results.

Already the new has arrived, and I literally haven’t had to do much of anything except say “yes” to the offers coming my way. I’ll be heading to my first international paid speaking gig in Prague in May (first time at that event). I’m being paid to be a year-long guest blogger for two different companies (totally new revenue stream). New partnerships and PR opportunities are just showing up – people are finding ME. I’m not mentioning all this to brag, but to illustrate the points about less being more, and flow.

Finally, I’m rebooting a past blog /passion project into my next business and I know I’ll need to create a lot of space for that. I’m hyper-aware that the vacuum I’ve already created could easily fill up with opportunities or tasks not related to this endeavor if I’m not vigilant, so I expect I’ll need to proactively guard time for the new.

Thanks for this video Mark, I suspect a lot of people are feeling a similar shift in 2019 as old constructs fall away and the new comes into play!

  2. This was helpful to me Mark – thank you for sharing. I am in a similar space of ‘clearing out’ and opening space for what longs to be born here in 2019.

I notice that in saying no and taking things off my plate it means befriending the fear of ‘missing out’ (If I don’t do XYZ I’ll miss an opportunity, or lose out on something, etc.) That, for me, is both the challenge and opportunity in honoring my own guidance.

  3. Thanks for Sharing Mark, i have decided to go ahead and set annual goals alongside 90 day targets!

This first time i’ve done it so let’s see how 2019 goes!

    Thanks,

    Nick

  4. I know I’m late to the party but this, THIS! I came to the same conclusion last night when an administrator asked me, “We’re at workshop planning time again. Any ideas?” My initial and forceful response (inside) was NO! No more workshops. No more classes. No more NO MORE! So I decided that’s exactly what I would do – drop those things for now. And I could breathe again.

I’m glad I’m not alone in this boat.

  5. Pretty late commenting on this. But surely saying no to something like you post here, Mark, in terms of stop doing something in 2019 can open new door for another opportunities which you can say yes to. I, myself, still learn to say no at the things which are not important and focus instead on the things which I really want to do to achieve my goals.

Would love to hear how the 2019 progresses, Mark, with this target of yours
