Why we’re promoting our course during this time of intensity

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1591200914770{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Because we are continuing with the promotional schedule of our upcoming course, I wanted to make a clear statement as to why we continue to promote in the midst of protests, a pandemic, and civil unrest.

There are two main reasons:

The first is simple: the truth is that small businesses often don’t have a huge amount of padding, financially. We’re a fairly successful business, and yet our monthly expenses, especially including payroll, means that it’s hard to shut down entirely without risking the business. We’ve seen the devastation to the economy, to lives, to communities, when small businesses are forced to close.

I’ve seen the vast numbers of self-employed folks that are hit even harder by this situation, and especially in the U.S., where the social network is tiny, and citizens were given $1200 to survive three months, it’s extremely painful.

The second is more visionary: which is that this is a time when businesses that are trying to weave a better future, that are trying to create resilient structures to care for us all, need to stand tall, need to be strong, need to be visible. We do not cede this time or this ground to global corporations, who will swoop in with predatory advertising and attempts to co-opt this moment for their own profit. Instead, we want to see the resources available supporting small, heart-centered businesses which, yes, includes us.

We at Heart of Business are in full support of the Black Lives Matter movement, we see and name the deep connections between capitalism and white supremacy, and we are working in our local communities, in our business, and with our clients to name and work against this, and have spoken to this issue for years.

If you ever feel that one of our promotions is off in some way, if we’re using language or social issues in a way that is out of integrity, we invite feedback. We are not fragile, and feedback is accepted in all forms- angry and otherwise.

As the co-owner and founder, I hope that this makes sense, and the same way that farmers can’t ignore the planting season or risk being hungry months from now, the same way that small businesses need to go to work every day to tend to what they’re doing, I’m hoping our continued promotion of our courses sits okay in your heart.

With love and appreciation,
Mark Silver, M.Div.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
