The alchemy of fear, grief and anger into love and strength in facing the world

Watching my country be taken to pieces with cruelty in order to further enrich the already super wealthy has sparked anger, fear and grief within me many times.

The vast majority of humanity has a deep desire for fairness, for equity, for justice. The latest research I’ve seen shows that maybe 1% of humans have some degree of clinical psychopathy, where they have a greatly reduced or absent sense of empathy and care for others.

The rest of us care.

The challenge is that when the systems we live in reward and encourage that lack of empathy and justice, that even caring humans can be desensitized, can be overwhelmed and worn out.

We need structures and systems around us that encourage justice in order for it to work well.

For those in the United States, our tiny businesses exist in this psychopathic national structure. And for those outside it, the scale of the U.S. means it has an outsized impact on the world.

So, it means it’s harder to stay grounded in love and justice when we feel we have to do it on our own.

Which means… don’t go it alone. Lean into one another. It’s why I started our Learning Community, it’s why I convene the Sufi Zawiya. So we don’t have to anchor in love and justice all on our own.

Human structures don’t last, nor should they. Without death, without endings, it would make it too hard to continue to evolve and grow. Some structures and systems are the best that can be done in a certain moment, and yet to move beyond them, the structures have to end, so we can grow.

It’s easier when things are smaller. We can grieve an individual, we can grieve a small business.

But when things are large, the size of a nation or a society, how do we stay in our hearts?

History tells us that although many people are harmed when structures end, it also tells us that many ordinary people continue on, after the structure is gone.

You and I are trees in a forest, we are part of a larger, healthier tapestry. If we take the time to receive from one another, to feel ourselves part of the larger reality, we can more easily notice how much of our nourishment comes through that.

In our Learning Community we have a library of over 250 guided Remembrance meditations on many different topics. I want to offer you one here now, as a way to taste that nourishment:

Allowing the alchemy of fear, grief and anger to guide the heart in filling with strength and love in facing the world.

It’s about 15 minutes… if you are currently feeling shaken by the world, can I encourage you to replace 15 minutes of doomscrolling or agitating, with listening to this recording?

And then, when facing the world, facing your business, what do you notice? How are you moved and inspired?

with love,
Mark Silver

Not being alone

Wherever you get nourishment, lean in! And, if you are struggling to find a place to lean in, there are two recommendations I have.

One is our Learning Community.

We’ll be opening our Learning Community later this month for new members, so I encourage you to keep an eye out. It’s a deeply healing container, filled with practical business support, several live calls each week, and a lot of nourishing healing and spiritual support as well.

You can take a look now: The Learning Community

And, if you’re just wanting spiritual support and healing, without any business support, and you resonate at all with the Sufi spiritual approach, I invite you to take a look at the Sufi Zawiya:

There is a Virtual Retreat coming up Friday, October 17 for those in the Learning Community, or in the Zawiya Inner Sanctum. Something to consider, as it is deeply nourishing and supportive, healing and connecting.
Spread the love
