Sovereignty and Power

A Sufi perspective on how to hold power and sovereignty with humility and care in your business and in your life.

Heart-centered, caring people tend to struggle with carrying and expressing power, whether in business, or elsewhere.

And for good reason. Power has been terribly misused in our society and in our marketplace. People of heart naturally don’t want to recreate that painful dynamic with people they care about, especially around their business.

Thankfully, it can all be done differently. A humble heart can access power and stand strong in sovereignty while moving in the world with a great deal of care. In fact, I think it’s critically necessary. And not just for business.

Neither the doormat nor the bulldozer…

No one should be a doormat…

Or a “martyr” or any of the other names we use to describe a rejection of holding power out of a fear of harming others. The concern is legitimate- we don’t want to harm others, and rejecting a relationship with power is not the way through.

…nor a bulldozer.

Or a steamroller, or any other language we use to describe someone who overcompensates, and wields power indiscriminately, harmfully. There are other versions of this that are just as harmful, but much less direct, like various types of manipulation. None of it is healthy, or really, that effective ultimately.
