Last week I said I’d introduce you to our mystery guest, and I’m good for my word. After going through a very rigorous and hard-to-choose process, we finally hired our Director of Marketing.
Marketing is a really hard position to hire for because it touches at the core of who we are at Heart of Business. We simultaneously needed someone who could become a voice for Heart of Business, yet at the same time brought a very different energy to help the team feel more diverse and expansive.
I’m excited, humbled and touched to say that Lisa Young said “Yes!” to us. Lisa is someone I met a few years back, and had no clue that our futures were going to intersect so profoundly (thanks, intuition…).
Here’s what I want to say about Lisa: She’s awesome. She has a tremendous heart and sense of caring, that comes out in wanting to roll up her sleeves and get things done. She also has a sophisticated, fun, open-hearted sense of marketing, with a lot of experience behind her.
She gets the vision. She gets strategy. She gets the caring and love in taking care of the itty-bitty details. You’ll be hearing a lot from her, and you can trust her the same way you trust all of us here, to do our best to care for your heart and your business.
I’ll let Lisa say a few things about herself here.
Howdy! I’m Lisa Young, and I’m thrilled to be joining the Heart of Business team. I’m learning the ropes to head up our marketing efforts, and it’s fun for me to learn more about you. If you see me around, say hi! In the meantime, here is a bit about me AND the first thing I get to do on the job.
I’m a musician. LOVE music, more specifically, I love the stories found in music. I also love marketing for the same reason. Good marketing is really just good storytelling. When you can tell the story of your product, service, or company in a compelling way, in a way that calls the names of those you can most help, then they WANT to say yes to you.
I’ve got two sons. My oldest just moved out on his own, and my youngest turned 8 this year. Back when they were still little, my sister and I went to a local club to see my friend’s band. We arrived early because we knew the place would be packed.
It was already a pretty busy place. We picked out the lone empty table that had two chairs and sat down – but I sat down a little wonky, because my chair only had 3 legs.
Now, if you’ve never sat in a 3-legged chair, it’s an adventure. It’s doable. If you balance yourself just so, you won’t fall over (like I almost did). Three legs are enough to keep the chair standing on its own, but when you add your weight… well, you need your own legs to hold yourself steady in the chair.
I realized that night that business is a lot like a 3-legged chair.
A 3-legged stool doesn’t have the same issues as a three-legged chair. Why? Because the legs are placed equally to support the load. Most entrepreneurs have gotten good at balancing family, social/spiritual, and personal needs. They’ve got at least some support in those areas, which allows them to focus on their business.
But what happens when the business needs support?
Well, then you’re sitting in a three-legged chair.
That’s why I’m so excited about the launch of the Heart of Business Community! It’s the fourth leg of stability for entrepreneurs who are committed to a heart-centered journey. It’s filled with compassionate, knowledgeable people who are there to support one another and help you find success.
You’ll get lots of know-how through the community, and our practitioners will provide world class guidance and support. But it’s deeper than that. It’s about helping you understand who you are, and how you do business. It’s about giving you a safe space to fully show up and to practice what you’re learning on all levels.
As a musician, I know practice is everything – it’s the key factor that separates the professional, world class artists from the amateurs.
Did you hear that? It’s not skill. It’s not talent or your inborn gifts. Those things are helpful, but in the end, it’s about showing up and practicing that matters most – consistently.
That’s what the Heart of Business community offers. A place to learn and practice everything from the nuts and bolts of business through the emotional and spiritual keys to being heart centered through it all.
I’m thrilled to be part of a company that really understands the journey of a heart-centered entrepreneur.
That’s the kind of company I want to work for. That’s the kind of community I know I can thrive in.
I hope you’ll join us for our free Open House which runs July 20-26. It’s a seven-day tour, so just register using the box below and we’ll get you all the info you need to join in. PS You gave a nice invitation to ‘free Open House which runs June 20-26.’
I guess you mean JULY 20-16?
Hi Juliet!
We actually meant July 20-26. I corrected it in the text above. Thank you. Typo’s are so easy, aren’t they? (Is it July already? How’d that happen? ha ha)
Hey Juliet! Thanks for catching that. Steve’s pretty quick, isn’t he?

Carol, I love that idea – being new each day. Tell me, how do YOU refresh and renew yourself daily?
Thanks for welcoming me in so nicely!
well….when I wake up each morning I am astounded by the fact that I am alive again and try to live in gratitude for that! Being alive is a miracle in itself.
With Love
Carol

Yay! Thank you for this affirmation. It was a big step (for all of us) to bring me to Heart of Business. This just further confirms what I already thought I knew about these amazing folks.
Hi Lisa:
I am also new to this community but look forward to getting to know you and the other team members. I loved the story of the 3 legged chair and may have to share that with a few of my clients. Thanks so much for sharing and Welcome!
Share away! If anything I offer can be of help, PLEASE share. 🙂
Hey Lisa girl! So HAPPY to see you here… happy for you, happy for the team, happy for the community! Remember that scene from The Grinch that Stole Christmas (original animated version) where the Grinch’s heart “grew three sizes that day”? Well… I think that the heart of The Heart of Business grew three sizes today… because you’re now part of the team!
Thank you, Teresa. Your words are always inspiring to me, and I’m very very VERY happy to see you here!
Hi Lisa, a belated welcome to the HoB community. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the news about who was appointed Director of Marketing … and somehow I missed the email last month announcing it as you!
I’m not around the HoB community as much as I used to be, but nevertheless, I wanted to make a special effort to say hi 🙂 I trust you will thrive in your new role.
Warm greetings from Sydney, Australia!
