When things are tough, you want to be in the Flow. At least, I know I want to. It’s the Holy Grail for most people in business. And, it’s no joke, because there is plenty of tough stuff, challenges, and potholes along the way. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just live in the Flow?
Two Spiritual Secrets about Flow and Three Keys to Faking Flow (yes, faking flow) are what I wrote about here: Read this article.

Ah Mark,
I’m not sure about equating flow with enlightenment. My experience of flow is when I’m living authentically, giving myself space to connect with my Source and when everything is in alignment – when I’m allowing my good to come to me and flowing with changes and lessons that come my way. And often the ‘coincidences’ feel like magic. As if the Universe is conspiring to support me – and it is. And this often includes things I need to learn. When I can ‘flow’ with them that helps too.
This is flow as opposed to being stuck or somewhere in between. And to me it comes down to taking inspired actions in alignment with my values, purpose, environment. That’s flow to me – and a big part of that is what I call ‘making space’ – letting go of the things; that clutter my life – my emotions – my mind – the distractions, and remembering who I am. I think we can have flow in our lives more and more and perhaps when we have it 100% of the time we are enlightened – I wouldn’t know, but by equating flow with enlightenment it puts it out of the reach of most of us and I don’t believe it’s that black and white.
In Feng Shui the Career and Life Purpose area is represented by the water element – this area is about flow – being like water – flowing around obstacles and finding our way without resisting and without trying to push the river – or control the outcome.
Flow involves a lot of letting go – and that’s not to say we don’t live intentional lives – it’s more that we don’t pretend to know how it’s all going to unfold – we’re open to synchronicity and guidance from a higher place. We can be in that place more and more.
When things are flowing in my life it feels almost like a ‘clunk’ in my body – remembering who I am and it feels like I have all wheels on the track. Things glide along. When things are not flowing I look to see where the energy might be blocked in my environment, I look to see if my intention is clear, I ask myself what the lesson is – or what I’m not seeing, I delegate something or ask for help, I move my body, I connect with my Source, I connect with someone who loves me, I look to see where I might be resisting – or I admit that perhaps now is not the right timing for something.
And sometimes it takes longer than other times to get back into the flow. But it does happen and I’m certainly not enlightened.
My thoughts for the day.
Warmly,
Vicky

Good thoughts, Vicky. I don’t disagree with you. However, I still hold that the Flow state is an enlightened state. My purpose in writing the article was to help calm people who thought they ‘should’ be able to reach flow easily, that things are somehow wrong if they are hard or ‘stuck.’
I don’t think enlightenment is all-or-nothing. I think we pass through stages, or, to use the Sufi term, veils, of enlightenment, whereby the more veils that are lifted from our heart, the more light is available, and the more we are able to see the world as you describe it above- larger and larger and larger, and where things are in their right place, even if our egos don’t always enjoy the situation- our hearts are at peace.
This journey of lifting veils never ends- there is no way to see Source completely unveiled, until after we die in the body and return completely to Oneness- that’s my understanding, although, of course, I’ve never been there.
In the day-to-day world, what I proposed in the article were ways to ‘fake’ getting into the Flow- much of what you talked about above is included in that. Strangely enough, by ‘faking’ the Flow- we sometimes end up in it.
But, my experience is that I can’t will myself into that space- although I can do things to prepare my heart to receive that Flow perspective.
Does that make more sense to you?
Hi Mark,
I think we are saying some similar things – and it IS actually about enlightenment – coming into the light more and more and being in-Spirit.
I think it’s all about getting out of our own way – ignoring our ego and connecting with who we truly are – making that journey back to Source – which is quite an art in these busy times when we’ve been conditioned to chase other things.
For me, it’s the whole inspired vs motivated question. I’ve spent my whole life being very self motivated and thinking this is a great thing – I certainly get things done. And it can be a great thing for sure. And there’s a place of balance where things flow – which involves a bit less motivation and more inspiration so I don’t run around like a headless chicken. Finding that balance is where I find flow – and when I’m in flow, perhaps I’m more enlightened (in-the-light) than I’ve been acknowledging.
Anyway, thanks for the stir!
Vicky
