maze

There’s a farm just outside Portland on Sauvie’s Island that grows many acres of corn each year. After harvest in the fall, they create a huge maze in the corn field. They give you a sheet of paper with questions that lead to clues as the only map for getting through it. It’s great fun, if not a bit anxiety producing. Far out in the middle of this great puzzle, there is an old worn plank you can climb to catch a view from above the stalks. The view is bittersweet as it doesn’t reveal the way through. But when I took a look, it certainly did open up an instinctual sense of place for me within a bigger world. The four-foot wide zigzagging paths suddenly became less confining. The way more sure.

What do you do day-to-day to gain a more spacious perspective in your business when it gets shrouded in details? How do you remind yourself that the stretch your treading on in your business really does have a life that reaches far beyond your view in the moment?

Thoughts to ponder this week. And if you top them off with Mark’s article, as fate will have it, you may end up sitting in Remembrance more than usual. 🙂

See you in the tent . . .
