The Nitty-Gritty Heart: Rabbi Alan Lurie

Welcome to the latest Nitty Gritty Heart interview dealing with the intersection of heart and spirituality and the world of business..

The intention is to help people integrate their sense of spirit and the business world, and to do it in a way that honors the details and numbers that businesses need to function, and honoring the non-linearity and non-logical wisdom that sometimes comes through the Divine. Here are the other Nitty Gritty Heart interviews.

Interview Number Six: Rabbi Alan Lurie

Alan Lurie has a great tapestry of his life. Trained as an architect, he is now the managing director of a Grubb-Ellis commercial real estate office in Manhattan.

And, he’s also an ordained Rabbi. Crazy, I know, but it’s true.

I met Alan a few years ago at a conference, and I was immediately impressed by how strongly and clearly he held his spiritual and religious orientation within the workplace, supporting his people to awaken to love and integrity in the workplace. Which is all the more impressive to me because it’s in the commercial real estate market in Manhattan. In Alan’s own words, “there are grandmothers for sale in commercial real estate.”

He has some profound insights into what spirituality really is and what it means in the workplace. And some very grounded and practical approaches to integrating it in your daily work and business life.

Alan has published a book, Five Minutes on Mondays, which is a collection of talks he gave to his staff at the Monday morning meetings they had. I recommend the book HIGHLY. Did I say “highly?” I meant HIGHLY.

Alan blogs on his website, and he also writes regularly for the Huffington Post. Drink up his goodness!

What are you taking away from Alan’s perspective on the nitty gritty heart?
