Video! 70%!

After writing an article about making peace with 70%, and then having the wonderful Corrina Gordon-Barnes start with her video debut, I’ve finally been shamed enough to break through my own perfectionist issues and do a video. Crazy.

So, without further ado, here’s my first public attempt at a Heart of Business video. Be gentle. I promise I’ll blink more next time…

  1. the video is great mark – so nice to see and hear you speak.
i really appreciate the message too. right now i am moving so s l o w l y i feel like i am completely still. my grandmother passed away very suddenly and i let everything else drop to be present with what is actually happening in my life and i am starting to find incredible gifts in this time. gifts that i wouldn’t have access to if i kept up my usual pace.
    here’s to going slow!

  2. I don’t know why, but I kept waiting for you to crack up. Maybe that’s just cause it’s how I feel when I do video-bloggy things. πŸ™‚

All that aside, I commend you for this foray into the wild world of video blogging! And of course I appreciate the content. Good to have reminders like that in all kinds of media…

  3. Just exactly what I know to be true for me. “I’m dancing as fast as I can” doesn’t feel good over the long haul ~ and I want to be in for the long haul πŸ™‚ Thanks, Mark.

  4. Love the music!!!

I certainly appreciate how vulnerable it is putting a video out there like that. My first video was so nerve wracking I haven’t done a second. I’m seriously considering doing them without the talking head part and just narrating off camera.

As to the message, I couldn’t agree more.

My goal is to stop and formally check in twice a day even though it goes on less formally all day long. Managing the first check in just fine but still working on the second.

Have to say that just taking that time to ask ‘what needs my attention most right now?’, makes such a difference. I’m much more focused, productive and less frenzied.

I’ve also taken to throwing out the to do list (I call it my creative palette) every day and starting afresh each morning. It feels so much lighter, and surprise, surprise…I haven’t missed anything vital yet.

    1. I was quite proud of that music- just threw it together in Garageband, actually- I was surprised at how it came together.

Twice a day check in is great. One of the reasons I love the five-times-daily prayer of Islam (and Sufis) is that the check-in happen five times a day.

I’m not always great at hitting all of them, but it’s a fantastic grounding when I do.

  5. Mark, I am SO happy to feel I am finally truly meeting you! After all our online connections (and even your on-your-bike video) there’s a sweetness I anticipated but had never actually seen.

I’ve been wanting to do more video beyond my site welcome message. Your & Corinna’s videos are giving me a gentle Yes. Please. Do.

Thank you for your message and continuing inspirations.

  6. Love how you mention that you can miss just as much moving too quickly as you can too slowly.

I feel like I’m moving at breakneck speeds lately. Sometimes I enjoy it, but if I’m honest, I admit most of the time it overwhelms me and goes against my own grain.

I’m working on making enough space to focus on things I have in front of me and trying not to do so many things at once and take on more stuff. It certainly takes a conscious effort to do that, especially if you feel you might miss out on something. πŸ™‚

  7. Mark, thanks so much for this video…and the reminder to slow down. This has been a mantra for me as of late. This has meant saying no to many more things…while initially seems so hard, I find I can breathe deeper each time I do so.

    Thanks again.

ps..and you’ve inspired me to take the next step with video as well…been toying with it for a while now. *blink* *blink* – 70%! yes! πŸ™‚

  8. Oh, I love it – the music, the racing through the woods, and your calming message to slow down. Taking it literally for a moment, I like the speed of a bicycle ride best. You’re going fast enough that you don’t lose patience about getting to your destination, but it’s slow enough to notice the flowers and animals along the way. Maybe that’s a good metaphor for the speed of living as well.

This is my first visit, but it won’t be my last!

    1. I am so bicyclist at heart. I’m glad you liked it- thanks for your kind words. And you are absolutely welcome back here any time. πŸ™‚

  9. Thanks for keeping it really short-and-sweet, Mark ~ “short attention span” could be my middle name!

    1. Susan! So nice to see you here. Gosh, it’s been years that we’ve known each other. I look forward to seeing your videos….

  10. Wonderful to meeting you in motion, meeting your eyes and being able to trust your hands.

And if someone would ask, I would answer:

I met humility – and she&he is much younger as I could imagine. I heard the voice of the path to future – and he&she is much more promising and vulnerable I could imagine.

And if the questioner would insist and go on, I would say: the message I take with me from this video is “keep on going – you are on the right track”.

    Thank for that, Mark

    Franz
