Chasing My Tail

The Sacred Moment Seminar like many good intensive events stopped regular time, it filled hearts, inspired new awarenesses, and provided new tools.

And then the day-to-day world washed back like in-rushing waves amongst tide pools. Suddenly there was too much to do again to catch up. The over-the-top multitasking monster came crashing through.

I knew it had hit the scene when I’d worked a full day only to find myself treading water and then needed to get to the frame shop to take advantage of their 50% off sale with enough time to get to the Basic Manners dog training class I volunteer for at the Oregon Humane Society.

The frame shop experience was a bust. My picture was being protected inside a flattened USPS box and the super-duper sticky flap got exposed and grabbed onto the bottom of my print tearing it.

Then when we started bantering about mats and frames, the monster made its first substantial move. In my hurry, I absent-mindedly sat my purse down on the floor so that I could maneuver sample mats and frames.

The price ended up being way more than I wanted to spend even with the 40 percent discount. I didn’t get what I’d come for and I was bordering on being late for my dog class. I picked up my print and took off.

It wasn’t until I was miles away, deep in inner city bumper-to-bumper traffic, and reading a homeless man’s sign that read “I’m too ugly to prostitute” that I realized my purse did not make it into the car with me. That meant my wallet (you know what that means) and my phone. No purse, traffic, late for class, driving without a license. The monster had me by the toenails. I ran through 500 possible choices in my head with outward calm. How could I take care of it all without sacrificing anything that needed to be done. Yikes!

I knew I’d be late for class, but I’d get there. I stopped at my bank thinking they’d let me use their phone. They did after two cartwheels and a back bend.

I called my partner, Nancy, who rarely answers the phone, and left a message to see if she could run over in the next ten minutes before the store closed to get my bag for me. Then I called the shopkeeper, who was gracious. She agreed to take my purse home so that I could pick it up after my class.

I was only 15 minutes late for the class. Did that, then stayed, as agreed, to help teach the PetPals shelter volunteer class. I’d left the shopkeeper’s phone number in the car, so I left the shelter figuring I’d stop at a gas station to call her for her address. For some reason she didn’t want to give it to me until I called back to confirm that I was coming.

The first gas station attendant said, “No” when I asked if I could use the phone. He pointed to the pay phone at the gas station across the street. (Did you know that pay phones are .50 cents now. I only had a quarter. No wallet) At this point, I’m worried that it’s getting too late to bother this shopkeeper. I go in to the gas station and ask to use their phone. This attendant, much nicer, said, “Of course.”

I’ve run my tails off. All of them. The shopkeeper answered the phone and sounded a little confused when I told her who I was. She said to me, “Your partner came by the shop just a little after 5 p.m. and picked up your purse.” All the steam shot right out of my bloated, multitasking sumo wrestling suit. All I could do was laugh.

And then last night, I read a wonderful essay by Anne Lamotte, “Time Lost and Found” that a Tucson friend sent me by snail-mail. Lamotte ends with, “I’ve heard it said that every day you need half an hour of quiet time for yourself, or your Self, unless you’re incredibly busy and stressed, in which case you need an hour. I promise you, it is there. Fight tooth and nail to find time, to make it. It is our true wealth, this moment, this hour, this day.”

April’s interview is here. This month Mark spoke with Dave Navarro, the Launch Coach, about launching a new product or offer successfully. We’ve been working with Dave on our Heart of Money launch the past couple of months and he really has his finger on the online launch pulse.

You’ll also find it under “Teachings: Sales & Conversion” on the navigation bar.

And once you listen, come over to the Tent so we can talk about it. Dave will be hanging out for awhile to answer questions for you.

See you in the Tent,

Kate
