How Fast Do You Have to Be to Keep Your Business Relevant?

The speed of life really is speeding up, at least as far as our technology. I’ve seen more technological change in my life time than the previous ten generations combined.

It can make you feel as if you need to move very quickly indeed to keep your business afloat. Do you have to move that fast? And if you decide not to, what do you have to focus on to make sure you don’t get swept away in a tide of irrelevance?

Take a look at this brand new holographic projection video I made on the topic… well, actually, it’s not holographic. I used a 4 year old camera. I think it works okay.

The Speed of Business

I really want to hear from you! Do you feel pushed by the speed of change? Do you struggle to keep up? How do you cope, or do you? Let’s discuss!

Peace,

Mark

  1. For me the speed of change only affects me in the technology I need to use.

I’m a blogger and am thinking of writing a kindle book. Fortunately (due to wanting it to be widely distributed) the makers of these kinds of technologies want them to be user friendly.

I’m a self development blogger so the basics don’t change much. Human experience hasn’t changed a whole lot in the last 10,000 years.

  2. Mark,

How fast do you have to be to stay relevant?

I propose that the best way to stay relevant is to slow down. The thing you may be most frantic to do may not be a good fit for your business. It may even be on the way out.

Once upon a time there was a thing called MySpace. Oh, and then there was a thing called Squidoo. I just checked Squidoo’s website to find out what the heck it was.

Apparently it’s a way to create a website-like page for free and collect royalties when someone clicks or purchases via your page. Considering that no one talks about Squidoo anymore, I find it difficult to believe that all that past effort still pays off today.

However, I did find out something else interesting: Seth Godin is a founding partner!

I am so lucky that I didn’t know back then that Seth Godin was involved. I may not have even known who Seth Godin IS. So there’s some stress I inadvertently sidestepped.

  3. Hi Mark,

Thank you for being the voice of calm and caring reason among the clamoring cries that we must do more, faster, and now–and, just for good measure, all at the same time. So much of that clamor seems to be based on tapping into people’s fears and insecurities and the mistaken belief that if we just buy into or adopt the next great panacea to come along all our problems will be solved.

Thanks, too, for reminding us of what really counts in effective communication–whether in a personal or business setting: authentic, heart-centred content delivered with compassion and engaged, attentive listening skills.

  4. Greetings Mark,
I have found so much of what is really true for me, and therefore my speed, through your heart-centered teachings. My first encounter with you in particular, comes to mind as it set the framework for helping me “remember” through my journey, even in breast cancer showing up for me last year….that no matter where we are, what we have going on, if we have what we want or not, that we are truly Loved and Cared for.

…….Wait! Cared For in not having things the way we want them in this red hot moment(I want to take Mark’s course and I can’t pay for it?) It helped me focus in the moment, and tune in with the Love that is present, steady, calm, and Knowing.

Talk about getting into the Greatest, Wisest, and most healing and Productive Speed there is!

    Thank You, Mark!

    Linda B.

  5. Dude, insanely fast. Good post. This is survival of the fittest. It’s not about being the strongest, smartest, and so on anymore. Those who will survive in the next 20 years are the ones who can handle change every single day. Things are changing every 20 minutes.
