Before we get into the article, I wanted to make you aware that a program I haven’t run for more than a year, the Spiritual Development Program, will be starting again in August. It’s already closing in on half full. Make sure you get to the notice after the article.
One of the challenges of a developing business is that you often need more support before you feel you can afford it. You get busy, you get overwhelmed, you can’t keep it all going, and yet your cash flow isn’t enough to really hire someone to help.
I’m not even talking an employee, I just mean a 5-8 hour/week virtual assistant.
There a few different things that help this situation, and one of the most important is to rethink your business model. You probably can be making more money from what you’re already doing.
I want to give you one approach, and then a bonus trick, to solving cash flow for hiring problems.
Recently a client was wanting to enroll new participants into a year-long program, as well as offer a second year program for the graduating first year clients. Logistically it was overwhelming, and it was unsure how many students would continue into the second year program, so would it even be worth it?
I suggested an approach that has worked many times before: combine them into one program, and give add-on support for the second years. Additional time before and after the big group meets, additional mentoring, and positioning them not as assistants but as advanced students.
It halved the logistics needed to run two completely separate groups, and it increased the amount of money they will bring in by being able to enroll the second year and the first year without overwhelm.
One way to think about it is “mix beginner and advanced.” But, an even more expansive way to think about it: how can you bring your clients together? Can they all attend a workshop together where you train them in core skills they all need? Or can clients graduate into a maintenance/support group so they don’t complete and leave, but you can add in new clients?
How creative can you get?
The Bonus Trick
You may not be able to afford to hire ongoing help at the moment, but I bet you could afford to hire someone for a one-time project. A one time project that creates more time for you ongoing in your life. And with that extra time you could: a) see more clients, thus increasing your revenue, b) finally start to work on the project that will bring you more revenue that you’ve been wanting to do, c) catch your breath, so your creativity can start to flow again.
I recently wrote about using heart-centered systems to end the feast or famine cycle. What if you could hire someone for 5-10 hours to help you set up one or two systems that would make your average business week MUCH easier?
Well, you can. Exciting, eh?
Two questions: What juicy ideas do you have for increasing your revenue easily, just a few hundred dollars a month to help hire the support you need. Or what’s one system or project that would totally change your life if someone spent 5 hours or so setting it up for you?

The Spiritual Development Program is open
Honestly, if you’re in complete start-up, you probably need business development rather than spiritual development.
However, once your business has some movement to it, you may be struggling with how to make clear decisions from the heart, how to access and express love even when overwhelmed or when something triggers you, and how do you come to terms with issues like wanting more and yet still yearning for humility.
Hands down, the single biggest factor in our clients’ success is the spiritual access to their own heart. This access is always there, but it’s not always easy to get to.
If your heart is tugging at you about this, take a look at the program. Only 20 spots, and it’s nearly half-full.

Program or Coaching?
As far as business development goes, you may be looking at needing hands-on help. Sometimes your business feels like it’s *almost* there- if only… you could enroll more people, you could reach more people, you could charge more (but not TOO much), you weren’t so overwhelmed…
If you’re thinking you need help, why don’t you take our free Readiness Assessment, so you know where your business is and whether you’re ready to really take advantage of hands-on coaching, or whether it would make more sense to do else.
Whether you’re in start up mode or are in more advanced stages of your business, it will help you get right to the heart of what you need.
We can help you learn where your business is developmentally and what you need to help it grow. Click here for a Readiness Assessment.
With love and appreciation,
Mark

Even when cash is super tight, which has happened occasionally for me, I’ve never even blinked at paying for my VA. She handles all my reports (stuff that would take me hours and distract me even longer, since some of my metrics are social media related), and I know the direct, bottom line impact those hours make for my personal as well as professional life. It was hard at first to “justify” the expense, but now, it’s a no-brainer. Freeing myself up to do more of my “genius work” makes everyone happy. 🙂
