Networking – 3 tips to expand your reach

Before we get to the video, I want to point you to a resource that may be super helpful. My friend and colleague Isabel Parlett does simply AMAZING work around helping people who do strange, unconventional, and inexplicable things find the language for what they do. In a single session she helped me find “Every act of business can be an act of love” for Heart of Business.

She has a free report out entitled “Finally Understood: How to Translate Your Life Wisdom into Marketable Value” that you can get on her website, which I highly recommend.

Okay, now on to the topic at hand.

Networking – 3 tips to expand your reach

Networking is a funny topic, because to some it can feel really hard to do, and yet it’s like this magic key. When done right, it opens up a LOT of doors for your business.

That’s why I love this video that our practitioner Jason Stein made. He talks about what doesn’t feel good to his heart that he’s starting to see more of, and what can make a difference for heart-centered people in expanding your reach.

It’s about 3 1/2 minutes, and well worth it.

Well, what did you take away? How is your networking going?

  1. Thanks Jason, great video.
I have to say that as an introvert I avoid networking most of the time, but it’s amazing to see how the very few connections I made led to great cooperations in my business! Yay!

  2. Very timely, Jason–thank you! Watching this, reading Heart of Business articles on networking and working through Foundations2 and the Heart-Centered Networking course has made excited about networking for the first time.

Previously, my reluctant forays into the “networking arena” would leave me swearing “I’ll NEVER do this again–such a waste of time, energy, self…for what???”

Now that my focus is on authentic, Heart-centered exploration of connections and community, I’m inspired and eager to move into this (for me) new area of business development. And yet, my introverted nature, shyness and newness at it leaves me feeling timid and hesitant all the same. Your tips offer a wonderful, focused nudge.

    1. Dana – I’m so excited to hear that you are getting your work more visible. There are so many people that are ready for a new lens on health and wellness and as I’ve watched your business grow, I can see how networking can bring more light to your business and to you.

  3. Thanks for the tips Jason. (lucky you being in Santa Fe!)
I’m beginning to warm to networking actually! I used to hate it, and avoid it like the plague, but now I’m clear on my message, I have the confidence to speak to people at networking events. I’m also really enjoying connecting one to one on Skype with people further away – it’s great fun, and I can really see how it opens doors for my business. 🙂

    1. Yay, I’ve heard a lot from people who use to hate networking, felt it drained their energy, who know appreciate that it’s really about building relationships and that those relationships can build organically and be fulfilling.

  4. Great idea: Start with a small project!

Lots of allegedly heart centered coaches want to start with a high-cost intense program so they can achieve lofty income goals within a month or two even though they are just now starting their practice.

Then they are offended if the prospect says no and doesn’t appreciate their supposed value.

Often through a series of marketing questions they lead the prospect into admitting that they will utterly fail in life or business if they don’t say yes.

    Horrible!

    1. Agreed, there are some horrible business practices being used out there.

My hope is more people get curious about the relationship first while still holding the intentions that you own a business. With this approach you can often stop leading prospects and more inviting. It really is an offering, rather than a hook.

    1. PS. Are you in a Master Mind w. one other person? That was the impression I had but maybe that’s not what you were suggesting..

      1. Thanks Meg. Yes I find that one other person is helpful for time and efficiency. It has to be a great fit though, otherwise one other person can be challenging.
