[Video] Out in the cold (in a big Russian hat)

Over the weekend I was out walking our dog, Rocky, and some conversations that I’d had with different clients over the past week really struck me.

The topic? What to focus on in the new year, and the difference between going from 90% to 95% and going from 0% to 40%, and which was better.

It’s a really important lesson in your business, and the video is short. Plus you get to see me in my grandfather’s crazy Russian hat. I joke that the only reason we moved to Ithaca, New York, was so that I could finally wear this hat.

It’s less than 3 1/2 minutes. Take a look.

What do you find uncomfortable that is really the doorway to your power, and what your business really needs in 2017?

With hugs and big gratitude,

  1. Talking aboutmy work to groups of people in a powerful, impactful way. Finally standing up and sharing that with the world.

  2. Hi Mark – love the hat! I will completing a certification early next year – work I really wanted to learn to do, but also I have to admit, I’m looking forward to having letters after my name, believing that people will take me more seriously. But I know that it’s not really about that – so what I have to lean into is taking myself seriously, stepping up with my clients, owning my decade of knowledge and experience – especially that I can no longer fall back on the excuse that ‘I’m not certified!’… lol

  3. I’m thinking about a herbal comic for kids that I’ve been intending to launch in book form, plus a release of my children’s fantasy novel. I’ve been enrolled in an illustration program, so look back at the work I’ve done on my comic (cover art & the comic itself) and seeing all the “flaws”. Same with the illustration/cover for my novel. I’ve balked at completing the former and really marketing the latter … but if I’m honest, I can see that my discomfort is my opportunity to allow for the imperfection, and trust the charm and other work that is part of these projects that is really good. And I do have knowledge now about how to launch/relaunch and tend to bringing my book projects into the world. So I’m thinking it’s time to roll up my sleeves and do the work required :). A leap out of my comfort zone for sure!

    1. I’m working with Yollana, and in the last couple of months I’ve been working on my new website, and branding. I have been finding this challenging, but I’m getting there!
The easy bit is the therapy with my lovely clients. But I am determined to keep going, until everything is in place, with my miscarriage support program on sale, and my auto-responders and communications all set up. And then we shall be into social media…
And none of this is what I went into business for, but I AM committed to make a big difference in the world, and so I am going to keep going until it’s all in place, so that I can! 🙂

  4. I enjoyed you showing up in your grandfather’s hat! 🙂
I appreciate you bringing this idea of power into this video and moving into what I need to learn more about: I have been pondering just over the last few days on 1.creating a homestudy programme which I am not sure yet what it will consist of 2. small group coaching via web 3. making short videos like yourself. All 3 are really stepping out of my comfort zone. Wish me luck!!

  5. Hi Mark, what a great video. Really made me think. I am very much looking forward to joining the course next week and with setting up my new business in 2017. I know I am good at what I do but I need to learn how to let everyone else know that now – writing is not naturally for me but I know that that is my doorway – so I am going to practice and practice some more. Oh and also buy a standing desk!
