Follow-up to Our Miserable Little Launch (plus Half Off Bundle)

Yesterday I wrote in an email about how badly our recent launch of Foundations3 had gone. My heart was warmed and lifted by all the responses, hundreds of them, and I wanted to follow-up and share what we learned.

Also, what we’re doing in response, including a half-off-bundle. But more on that below. First, let me share what we saw.

Here’s what we saw

The responses were pretty consistent, meaning that the percentages that established themselves after the first 30 responses pretty much held hundreds of responses later. (see graphic below)

The comments:

The text comments were all over the map, and we learned some interesting things, about what people are needing, and how people are feeling. We read a lot of heart-warming affirmations for what we’re doing in the world, and a few people told us they weren’t happy with something we did.

There were some insights for me, Mark, about my being interested in advanced business topics, but maybe you aren’t so interested. This is definitely a wake-up call for me, and reinforces something Steve has been telling me. And, it’s precisely in line with what Steve wants most (and is brilliant at) which is more teaching/instruction time with our readers on these critical topics. Anyway, there’s a lot there, and we’re still reading through them. Thank you for taking the time to share!
Here’s what makes sense

The vast majority of you want what we already know are our best-selling and most proven programs. They have to do with the early stages of business development: getting clients, making money, staying in your heart.

Totally makes sense.

Also, from the comments, I noticed that we didn’t do as fabulous a job explaining the Accelerating Growth program as we might have. That’s to ponder for the future, because, Lord help me, I don’t have the strength in me to redo that page right now, even if it costs us clients.

Sometimes you just have to focus.

Here’s where we’re scratching our heads.

I’ll tell you one place that Steve and I are confused, and maybe you can help us understand. As you can see in the graphic below, only about 10% said they were challenged or needing support with spiritual depth and transformation in your business, which was second to the bottom in the first question. Yet about 50% of you said you follow us for spiritual depth and transformation.

Help me understand… is it not seen as a business challenge, but just something you want? Did I word it strangely and the two questions just didn’t connect?

Anyway… anything you care to share about that mismatch, we’d be delighted to read.

Steve and I laughing at ourselves

Looking at Foundations3: Accelerating Growth, we immediately saw that one weakness was the testimonials. These are long-term strategic topics that are hard to quantify or see immediate results with, and so the testimonials were honest, clear, positive, and not over-the-moon with results.

Steve and I joked, “Take a product that no one really wants or needs, give it a premium price, and then add testimonials that say, ‘Yeah, it kinda worked. I liked it.’” That’s a recipe for a home run, hah!

If you can’t laugh at yourself… What did we expect?

Learn from us, folks! Beware of assumptions and blind spots! And sometimes you just can’t avoid them.

Here’s what we want to do

Listen, we’re all about helping people, and if what we’re offering isn’t helping, then we want to offer something that will. We’re over-the-moon grateful for all the responses and feedback as well as the time and energy and heart people poured into their comments (which we’re reading and re-reading).

Then, since most of you are really focused on getting clients and making your business profitable, that’s what we want to offer you!

And, I *know* how important the topics in Accelerating Growth are, even if we didn’t make a strong enough case for them.

First Things First

A few people said they were still considering the live Accelerating Growth program. Good news! There is still time to enroll!

It’s a small group, very intimate. You’ll get lots of personal attention. It’s basically like small group coaching, with a focus on some very critical topics.

We’re still offering what was the early bird price. Because, heck, that’s what feels right.

You can join here: F3: Accelerating Growth Live Course (starts next week)!

Second Things Second

We dropped the price on the Accelerating Growth Homestudy.

If that’s your jam, (mine is Concord grape- we made a ton of it in the fall and are down to the last jar), get it now during the promotional period.

The whole package comes in three modules. One module was $500, now it’s $300. Two modules were $750, now they are $450. Three modules were $950. Now all three are $550.

But, for the majority of you, you’ll probably want this third thing.

Third: The Get Clients and Become Profitable Bundle
(until March 30)

People are scared about the economy and the future. People feel like their finances are tight. And people are wanting to get clients and build their businesses. So, can we meet you halfway?

Here’s what we want to offer you from our heart. A bundle of home study products for 50% off, plus some support! This has all gone on long enough, so we’re setting the deadline of March 30 (which is also the deadline to register for F1: Clients and Money starting in April).

The Bundle Includes:

  1. Heart-Centered Networking Homestudy, suitable for introverts and extroverts, for online and offline, and also for creating strategic alliances, so you can get a LOT of referrals from different sources. Regular price is $167.
  2. How to Say What You Do In One Compelling Sentence Homestudy breaks down one of the hardest and most misunderstood steps in business into simple, doable steps, so you come up with a non-hypey, non-marketing-language sentence that the right people just say, “That’s me! Tell me more!”It includes a robust collection of 70 written Q&A from our Foundations1 program on all aspects of what we’ve come to call the OCS (One Compelling Sentence). Regular price is $95.It also includes mp3 recordings of 39 different 10-15 minutes coaching sessions that I personally did with participants, helping them through the biggest bumps of naming their OCS. Many different professions and businesses are represented. Incredibly helpful.
  3. Accelerating Growth: Business Model Homestudy. Listen, this might sound like an advanced topic, and it can be, but it can also be incredibly basic. 42% of you said you wanted to make your business profitable. Well, looking at your business model is how you make it profitable, and the insights, interviews, worksheets and spreadsheets will help you break through income ceilings and old thinking that is keeping you stuck at low income levels. Current reduced sales price: $300

Each of them has full descriptions, so I encourage you to read them:

If you bought each of those products now, separately, they would cost a total of US$562.00

Until March 30, we’re offering two things:

Thing One: 50% off on this bundle!

The total cost is US$281. Payable in full, or in 3 payments of $94. And you get immediate access to all three.

Note that it will include a $95 credit towards F1: Clients and Money, should you choose to register at some time, to credit you for One Compelling Sentence purchase, as well as a $167 credit toward F2: Expand Your Reach, to credit you for the Networking homestudy.

Thing Two: Small group coaching for the first 40 people!

NOTE: If you’re seeing this message, you are one of the first 40! We’ll remove this when it’s no longer available…

For the first 40 people, inclusion in a small group coaching call, with no more than 4 participants, so you will get one-on-one time with me, Mark, on the topic of Getting Clients and Becoming Profitable.

The Big Question: Will I get it done?

Some people, maybe you’re one of them, really love working with home study programs, are motivated, or have support systems around them. That’s awesome. And it makes this bundle more than worth it.

Others, and maybe you’re one of these, worry that you’ll never get to it, or will start it and not finish it. Can I suggest something?

30% of the survey responses (maybe including you?) said they wanted compassionate accountability. Which is right in line with what we’re doing more of in our Community: we are actively adding compassionate accountability structures, which will support you to stay on course!

We’re not including the Community in the bundle because we only want people to join if it’s right for them, and not get it as an “extra” in a bundle. My family and I moved to an ecovillage because we wanted to be part of an intentional community, and we feel the same about our online community and the few hundred people that are currently members. If you actively want community and compassionate accountability for your business, please join us.

Yet, what I would encourage you to do is to buy the bundle, then join the Community. By joining now, you’re part of the initial implementation of the accountability structures, and so you’ll be a part of our initial feedback loop, and will help form what it is and how it works.

The Community is joined on a pay-from-the-heart basis, and so you can choose how much you pay on a monthly basis. It has a TON of support already, including a large library of spiritual meditation/Remembrances on nearly 150 topics, regular virtual retreats, and an active, private, secret Facebook group, among other things. People tell us that it’s unlike any other online space they’ve been in, community-wise, for how heart-centered, supportive, and effective it is.

You can check it out here: Community

And thanks again for your heart-felt feedback. You really helped us to see ourselves in relationship with you and reflect on how we can best be of service to you. And that’s why we’re here! I’ll be sharing more lessons learned over the next weeks.

With big gratitude,

  1. Well, I for one subscribe to your services partly because of the spiritual depth and transformation and I don’t feel that challenged right now, because I’m getting the support I need. 🙂 Thank you for all you do.

    1. I agree. My need for spiritual depth and support with business development is met by subscribing to your newsletters. So grateful for that!

  2. This email is exactly why I think you’re incredible, Mark. You’re honest, straightforward, and full of integrity and heart. It’s why I stay on your list even though I am focusing on something else at the moment –my professional book published by W.W. Norton is released April 11. I’m relieved to have the baby done (for sure!) and am now focusing on the book launch and networking with other professional opportunities (which are coming in fast.)

Reading your newsletter keeps me centered and grounded. Thank you for being here on the planet for all of us. Right now I’m not jumping in but will look for opportunities to do so when the dust clears.

    deep bow of gratitude,
    Deirdre

    1. Deirdre- so happy to hear about your book! Woo-hoo! And thank you for your kind words- I really appreciate it, and love seeing you show up here.

  3. Mark, thank you for the quick and thoughtful response to the results of your survey. Like other commenters, I appreciate your deeply honest and heartfelt take on dilemmas and issues that most of us have experienced in our businesses or other work. Your newsletter also reminds me to look at my business through the lens of my own beliefs and to turn to my spiritual practice for nourishment and support.

If I were looking for help with spiritual depth and transformation in my business, however, I’d seek out coaching or spiritual direction rather than signing up for a course. Perhaps that’s a distinction others are making as well?

  4. Great follow up to your previous post. I think maybe the perceived disconnect in the questions around spiritual depth is around that being the reason people follow you in the first place. You’re attracting like-minded people who are already running (or starting) businesses from a good spiritual base. What we need is to understand some of the practicalities from someone we trust who isn’t selling snake-oil.

  5. So in answer to your question about spirituality: I already have a spiritual practice in which I am deepening all the time. What I am looking for and finding here is a way to bring this into my work, a way to use sound business methods that have integrity to bring my ‘jewel’ to the world. You are a model of how to integrate spirituality with business. So no I’m not looking for spiritual deepening, but I also know that I will get some working with HOB!

  6. I can understand the confusion that many of us said we are not challenged for spiritual depth but we follow you for spiritual depth. I agree with Marie above in saying that I’m not challenged in this way because my needs are being met. Just being in the H0B community helps me meet those needs, and I have a lot of that depth, personally, in my own growth program with Spirit itself.

So yeah, I’m not challenged there, but it’s very worthwhile for me to keep having that connection. I imagine this is why people go to church, when that’s their jam. They probably aren’t challenged for spiritual depth, because they’re attending to that need by going. <3

  7. Thanks for this wonderful “show, don’t tell” lesson about listening to your clients’ needs, integrity and flowing and adapting as well as transforming a failure into an opportunity. Amazing living example.

Being a Gemini, I am of two minds in regards to your question about the apparent contradiction in the responses to Spirituality.

On one hand, I agree with what others are saying in terms that 1) The community is nurturing our spiritual support needs and 2)Your presence and offers address our spiritual needs so that we do not have a challenge because we are being supported.

The paradox here is that you attract your ideal clients: spiritual people who want their business offers to be an act of love. However, what I hear us saying there is that it is not a particular offer that supports our spirituality, rather your very Essence and Presence running along the fiber of everything –from the community to the specific offers– that feeds our spiritual needs.

On the other hand, as a shaman I have observed that most people seek to solve material problems at a material basis and spiritual problems in a spiritual way. It’s not that they do not see the spiritual in a situation. It is that –unless you have shamanic inclinations or otherwise find a path– we have not been socialized to see and apply spiritual solutions to material problems. In fact, that is what I like about the shaman’s way. It is a practical, living experience of spirituality applied to every living situation.

How often I hear spiritual people with great faith and spiritual practice complaining about their health, finances, relationships or purpose, seeking to solve the problem at the same level of consciousness that perceives and perpetuates it. It seems that we are still not trained in perceiving and addressing the SOURCE of material problems at the spirit/energy/emotion/consciousness level.

Part of this is the patriarchal devaluation of the Sacred Feminine, which addresses what I call Internal Actions. This are intentional, emotional and energy actions that override, direct or cancel the actions we do to change material circumstances. For example: I want to get more clients. I take courses, implement actions and work real hard, but it does not happen or drips in. What I may not know is that the internal action I am doing is protecting myself from the rejection I expect from others because I am holding a limiting story I learned from my family’s rejection to my creativity. The Internal Action ALWAYS overrides the external action.

But we only know about external actions and think anything else as passivity. This and other situations split and debilitate our intention. Therefore, our actions in the world are ineffective.

You can see that I’m passionate about this. It’s one of those paradoxes that I’ve been working with as part of communicating what I do and reaching my clients/readers.

It’s been a challenge, for example, to communicate how my shamanic stories can be applied to specific “real life” problems. The modern western world is fragmented between creativity, spirituality, emotions and social/personal actions for change.

So yes, we are being nurtured here. Yet, in my experience there are two things we need to address in our business: new skills and our spiritual, emotional, soulful self. The problem we face in due either to a lack of skills or to a limiting story or fragmented intention (we could say an old story) that is at the source. The external situation is a mirror and a symptom.

But even among spiritual people, it seems rather weird or too “esoteric” to say that the cause of a material problem is usually non-material. We are not trained to see that way.

Much love and gratitude for this opportunity and lesson.

  8. Just a comment about the spiritual development question. That’s important to me because it tells me where you are coming from but I don’t come to you seeking spiritual teachings. I’m well taken care of in that regard but to have a business coach whose work is rooted in deep spiritual practice matters. It means I can trust your integrity and your business advice.
