[Video] Accommodation vs Accountability

What if you had a team member, someone who was supporting your business, who was working on something important for you? And then something happened. They got sick, they dropped the ball, or they made a mistake.

What’s the balance between accommodating someone being human, and being strong about holding someone accountable? After all, it’s your business, you’re accountable if something doesn’t happen, right?

One of my clients was facing this issue, and so I made a video about it. A little over six minutes, and I make 3 important points, the third being the most important.

  1. Mark, I cannot believe that this beautiful video, which brought me to tears, has no comments yet!

    I work with women who feel overwhelmed by ongoing health issues who want to feel good again.

    I often find that the people who come to me for help feel like they are “too much” or “not worthy” in subtle ways. This question from your third point in the video inspired me to write a blog post for my clients.

  3. Hi Mark, thank you, so beautiful and thoughtful. Amazing question: “Am I worthy of support?” For me, it’s always easier to support others than to get support. I had to learn that I am a better helper if I am able to ask for help myself. What helped me in the past with my team, was the purpose or cause we were working for/towards. I always could tell my team / and, even more important, myself, that I was asking for help on behalf of our clients. We did it for them, my team supported me with supporting my clients. This makes asking for help so much easier, and yet, it doesn’t answer the question if I am worthy of support. Consiously: yes, I am.
