The Simplicity Key

Almost all business owners have parts of their business that come more easily to them, and other parts that are more challenging.

This makes for a really uneven business. For many, they are really good at working with clients, and yet, for instance, marketing and sales eludes them.

As human beings, we tend to lean into what we’re comfortable with, and avoid what is uncomfortable or difficult. For example, someone may have incredibly well-developed offers, and yet other parts of the business, say marketing and enrollment, are anemic and not functioning well.

So… here’s what I suggest:

What’s your experience with making space to learn what you need to learn?

With big appreciation,

  1. Mark, I really appreciate your video regarding simplicity. I’m a big believer in this concept and you explained it so well. The challenge is that we live in a time where complexity, technology, and chaos is the norm, almost expected. It takes someone with a great deal of confidence to decide to design their business against the norm : simple processes + genuine care = big results.

  2. Mark, I am hearing this beautiful and wise message and struggling a bit to apply it. I feel like I am in a point with my business that it is a complex tapestry that I am slowly and diligently weaving together. My heart tells me that it needs to be this complex and comprehensive — not narrow focused like a lot of the work in this area (relationships) and each piece is simple and always being refined further to something common sense and applicable. Just sometimes the big scope of my mission seems too great and yet again, my heart says, “One step at a time. This is where we are in the journey, just work on building this part… the vision is life long and many hands will come and join us to flesh it out all in good time…” Makes me feel like there is a paradox here… simple and in the moment while holding the greatness of the calling without minimizing and or denying that!

    1. David- I think you’ve actually named it quite well here, what I was getting at. And yes, it is a struggle to apply it. In the complexity of the whole, the simplicity is what you said: “my heart says, “One step at a time. This is where we are in the journey, just work on building this part…”” Yes to this, and being simple in taking on each simple thing at a time, and letting the complexity of the weave take care of itself.
