I thought about doing something special for this secular, Gregorian New Year. And it made me think about waists.
Someone pointed out to me once that “waist” isn’t a thing, it doesn’t exist anatomically. The “waist” is something created to describe where the top of our pants commonly sit, more-or-less. It’s a term that describes our clothing, not our bodies.
The New Year, in the same way, describes how we mark the passage of time, but doesn’t really describe the reality of our businesses. Business just continues. Your business, your heart, doesn’t necessarily know whether it’s 11:59:59 on 12/31/18, or 00:00:01 on 01/01/19.
(I set aside astrological energetic conditions coming in February, for the Chinese New Year, such as one of our Community members, Jillian, talked about on a class she taught about Feng Shui.)
The point here is that your business is just living. You, yourself, your heart is just beating. Use these markers of time if they are useful for you, but don’t get overly dramatic about the new year.
Instead, let yourself commit to a grounded, steady, open-hearted, step-by-step walking your business forward.
Ahhhh…. breathing out….
About apologizing to your clients.
Members of our Learning Community were discussing about how sometimes you, as a practitioner, can feel inadequate with your clients. You can feel like you make mistakes.
I wholeheartedly endorse apologizing and making good when there’s an actual mistake. But please, please, don’t adopt an apologetic stance simply for having less experience now than you will have sometime in the future!
I made this quick video to discuss this:
What’s your relationship to apologizing to clients/your own perceived shortcomings? Can we help your heart step into a deeper acceptance of yourself here?
with love,
Mark Silver, M.Div.

p.s. Money is often a driver for these kinds of apologetic reactions.
When a client pays you money, you can feel like you owe them an unreasonable amount of your time and energy. Sometimes practitioners can feel like they owe their souls, meaning that they should somehow be better than they already are…
In the Heart of Money Transformational Journey, Class 5: Lightening the Weight of Debt, addresses these feelings directly. It’s hard, however, to jump directly into that lesson without the foundational teachings that come before.
And you can have all of it!
The class starts… well… NOW actually. The first live call is next Tuesday, and the official start is this coming Monday. But folks who are already registered have had the pre-work since late December.
Join us! Pay-from-the-heart pricing. And off we go!

This is GREAT! Thank you Mark! So happy this will be covered in the HoM course. This has been an issue for me (feeling like I have to give my entire soul perfectly and to the point of depletion) for much of my self employment career. It’s not just new practitioners. Curiously this issue has intensified this year causing significant anxiety and stopping me in my tracks…..stalling my business. I guess that’s a sign I need to address it. Thank you for speaking it. Looking forward to the HoM course.
