Recently, in our Community, I was asked about our program, The Heart of Your Business, and whether or not it would be good for someone who has already done other courses with Heart of Business.
It’s a good question, and so I wanted to share my own perspective on how I work with re-doing Heart of Business material, from my heart to yours.
My intent here is to support you – if you might be thinking about the program, to reach your own, solid, clear decision on whether or not this program will be supportive to you. If so, jump in. If not, you can feel super-great in letting it go. Clarity rocks!

As I scroll through my Facebook feed, I’m constantly amazed at all the new stuff being advertised. There is no shortage of new things to draw my attention.
This is also true regarding business ads on Facebook. There seems to always be a new webinar, the latest secrets, tricks and templates that hold the keys to the kingdom. If you miss it – you’re gonna be sorry. All you have to do is click the button and you’ll have the answers you’ve been looking for.
I teach this stuff, and sometimes the marketing is so relentless, I click through just to see what they have that’s so damn amazing. While there are some novel, smart and helpful ideas out there, you know what I’ve found after 15+ years studying business, watching webinars and downloading the free stuff?
There is nothing as profound as the basics.
The other thing I’ve realized is that, in the pursuit of the the latest and greatest, my relationship with the basics erodes.
This is why re-immersion in the basics is not only nourishing, but essential.
If you lose connection and healthy relationship with the deeply profound basic truths of business, you’ll likely find yourself feeling crushed, overwhelmed, lost or having to start over.
But… what if you “already know” this stuff? What if you’ve been through it before?
It’s like your favorite food, a hot bubble bath, sitting watching a sunset – pick your favorite thing – isn’t it always nourishing to return to it?
I know Heart of Business’ teachings deeply. I’ve integrated them into my heart and soul. I teach this stuff. I “know” the basics.
Yet, I continue to re-immerse myself in what we teach, with a students mind, so that I can learn something new, refresh and renew my understanding and deepen my relationship with the material, my business and myself. Why? This makes me a better teacher, practitioner and nourishes my heart and soul. It’s as simple as that.
When I revisit Heart of Business material myself (which I do weekly as a practice of mine), I don’t always have “knock your socks off” moments of insight. But, the reminders are still nourishing. So much of it is review, and yet, it still brings me to a deeper place. My relationship with my own business is constantly evolving, shifting, changing – as is my life and personal experience – so bringing back the basics with intention and care help to bring those nourishing nuggets into my present experience, instead of leaving them as some piece of knowledge I gained in my past.
Basic, fundamental principles of business are not things we learn once and then check off our to-do list. That would like being in a relationship with our partner, checking in one day, making sure we have a healthy relationship and then never returning to check-in again. That just doesn’t work. We have to go back and re-connect with the fundamentals which create the framework upon which everything else is built – in life, relationships and in business.
(Funny… I’m realizing I am referring to these teachings as “basics.” What’s funny is that what’s covered in the program is anything but basic. Frankly, it’s some of the most transformative and nourishing stuff I’ve experienced in the small business development field. I say this, not as a part of Heart of Business, but as the student who started learning from Heart of Business many years ago.)
Plus, if you’re anything like me, it’s so easy to simply forget.
So, I want to invite you to check into your heart and see if it’s time to re-immerse yourself in the profound, nourishing principles that make business work. How would it feel to take a new, fresh look at your relationship with your business from this perspective?
You don’t even have to do all the hard work of assignments and partnering if you don’t want. What if you just allowed yourself to bathe in the material for a bit each week and see what comes up? What if you remember even one nugget that helps your eyes shine and your heart sparkle and your spirit feel just a little lighter? How would that be?
Maybe, it’s not a function of, “Do I need this?”
Perhaps it’s a matter of allowing yourself to have it.
