Did I Do it Right?

One of the questions I get most often is some form of, “How do I know if it’s going to work?” That question arrives in a million ways, “How do I know this message/offer/campaign/system will work?”

The other version of the same question is, “Did I do it right?”

Many of us have had very painful experiences with failure, especially early in life. And so many of us live with shame around failure, and thus our need to “get it right” every time.

Unfortunately, here’s the thing: you can’t get it right the first time. You have to try things, some of which will work okay, some of which will bomb terribly, and some of which will work better. Over time you’ll improve the ones that work, and some of those will be amazing.

But rarely, rarely will you just step up and hit one out of the park on the first swing.

This means that you have to get comfortable with experimentation, with trying things out.

Now… there’s nothing wrong with asking for opinions and feedback, especially if you’re in one of our programs and we’re there to help you minimize your missteps. I rarely answer people with a shrug “Mmm… I dunno… try it out…” That’s a miserable answer from someone in my position. 🙂

However, the truth is, while I often have insight and feedback, the most accurate feedback you’ll get is from your own clients, from the people who engage with your marketing message, or who experience the system you create, or whatever you are working with.

And this means: experimenting.

For instance…

Last week I mentioned something I started to create: The Sufi Channel. It’s an experiment. Although I asked on Facebook if people wanted it, and bunches of people did, we’ll see if they actually do.

At this point, it’s unlikely that it will fail completely, meaning no one likes it at all. However, it might be that just a few people like it, and it doesn’t really do much. In which case I’ll do a few episodes, and then let it go.

I may be slightly disappointed if it doesn’t take off, but I won’t feel like it’s a personal failing of mine. It’s just a miss.

And if it does take off, well, that will be something to celebrate. We’ll be watching.

The Spiritual Teaching

There is a saying in my lineage of Sufism: “Each one’s inability to know suffices.” What this means is that we can’t know everything. However, the not knowing suffices. We know what we know, and we step forward confidently in the moment, despite not knowing it all.

That confidence is not blind belief in success. It’s just confidence that we’re doing our best, and that if something doesn’t work, that’s a great bit of feedback. And maybe it will work.

The Side Teaching

Things rarely fail completely. We tend to think in binary–it worked or it didn’t work. But that’s not what actually happens. Usually it works a little bit, or somewhat, or a lot.

If we can step away from feeling like a miss is a personal failure, and if we can also let go of binary thinking, that opens up so much possibility for the future.

So… what do you say? Did I do it right? How is this landing for you?

With love,

Heart of Business, Inc.
Every act of business can be an act of love.

Not an experiment.

For several years we’ve experimented with different pricing and delivery, and we’ve reached two conclusions. First, the programs, F1: Clients & Money and F2: Expand Your Reach, are EXTREMELY effective, and people love them. Second, our prices have been unsustainable.

So we’re continuing to provide the programs, and at the end of this month, the pricing will go up significantly.

I wrote about the price change (if you missed it you can read it here). The deadline to take advantage of the current pricing is Wednesday, May 30.

Because you may need a little time to discern what you’re really needing, don’t wait until the deadline to figure out or to ask questions.

These two programs, together, help you make money in a way that feels great. Specifically, we help you go from under US$10,000/year (including some who are at zero, or just a few hundred dollars) to get into the mid-five-figures or beyond. We are committed to any money you spend with us paying off in business development.

Don’t struggle on your own. Get the help to make your business fly!

“I have to admit, for all my training and experience in marketing prior to finding Heart of Business, I was so far off course and out of touch with the core of the work I wanted to do. The class has focused my thinking so that I’m finally finding clarity, feeling less overwhelmed, and taking consistent action that already is moving me forward. I highly recommend this course to any entrepreneur who wants their business to be a genuine reflection of who they are and a viable platform from which to share their unique gifts.”

– Dawn Williams, F1: Clients & Money past participant

“…Before we started HOB, we didn’t have a business, no clients whatsoever. Since going through this program, we have had clients showing up to all of our monthly group sessions and we’ve been getting only positive and constructive feedback.”

– Alexandre & Alyona Jodun, F1: Clients & Money past participant

Please join us!

Both programs start the first Monday of every month, rather than us doing a big launch every year. This is because of our commitment to access: not everyone’s timing matches when a course starts, and it seems ridiculous to have to wait months to get the help you need.

If you’re in start-up, or your cashflow is very low, and need to bring in some clients and money then you want to join Clients & Money. Click here to check it out and register.

If you’re a little further along, and need to reach more people to fill your schedule consistently, then you want Expand Your Reach. Click here to check it out and register.
