The Return of Holly

Back in 2001, when I first started Heart of Business, my wife Holly was right there. She had her own healing practice already, and I was eagerly learning from her, as I had for years, about hands-on, low-budget marketing, as well as all the wisdom she had about how to hold a room of people, how to lead workshops and to teach.

After some time, she received her own guidance to join me in Heart of Business, and we worked together really happily, co-leading classes and retreats, and creating content.

Then the boys came along. We decided together that she would be primary with the kids, and I would be primary in keeping the business running. It was definitely strange to find ourselves playing such gender-typical roles, but the guidance and our hearts were clear, and so that’s what we did.

Ten years have passed this way, crazy how time flies. Now that we’ve moved to Harrisburg, our kids get to go to a free democratic school, which means no more homeschooling. Significantly it also means that Holly is coming back to work full time at Heart of Business, and I’m just so excited!

I think I can honor myself and still acknowledge that Heart of Business feels “thin” in a certain way when it’s just me all the time. Holly’s presence is such a continual source of love and wisdom and strength for me and for the company, even if she hasn’t been very visible. Now to have her much more present going forward will be such an enrichment of all that we do.

I think it’s important to note that she has a ton of training under her belt. In addition to the Sufi healership training that I received, she was trained as a massage therapist, a hypnotherapist, and a family constellations facilitator. She has had deep training in nonviolent communication, and also has a long history of political awareness, going back to her study of international political economy, and her own research into the current political streams.

She had her own successful healing and body work practice, supporting herself full time with it, and she knows how to market and “get herself out there.”

Why I’m telling you all this.

Next week our boys start school, and Holly will have many more hours to give to both herself and to Heart of Business. She’s going to be way involved in supporting our Learning Community, and the business in general.

You’ll get to start hanging out with her more and more. I’m excited for you and I’m excited for me, and for her. She’s so inspired by what we’re doing here, she’s been hankering to get her hands in it again!

Welcome back, Holly! I love you!

My parents worked together happily and successfully at the family store for decades, so I have great role models in that. Plus, Holly and I are really compatible work partners.
