"Self-Improvement"

Someone I know recently ran something she called ‘Freedom from Self-Improvement day’ I love the concept- freedom from self-improvement, and support all of us getting our need for acceptance fulfilled in a deep way. One of my personal heroes is Paul Hawken, and in his latest book Blessed Unrest (highly recommended) writes this: Life tends […]

There’s No Such Thing as "Resistance"

Okay, you’ve got your plan in front of you. Let’s say that you want to get a new product created. You know what you have to do, you know what you want to do. The way feels clear, your heart feels right with it, even excited, you’re ready to go, and… Nothing. You’re stopped dead […]

When It's Okay to Hype Your Customers

The need for integrity is one of the biggest roadblocks to marketing your business. Of course you don’t want to manipulate people to buy through fear or other hype-tactics. So you soft-peddle your offers. Or avoid offering at all. Need integrity? Check. Need customers to purchase? Check. What to do? What is ‘Hype’? One definition […]

Another Solution for Business Overwhelm

This morning, as I was contemplating the Sacred Moment seminar approaching this weekend, in a way similar to contemplating an oncoming train. An oncoming train in a dark tunnel. With no escape. I was feeling a little stress. Stress? Why would I feel stress? One of the biggest reasons is that I was spending a […]

Can You Sell God?

The topic of ‘selling God’ comes up for me in looking at many service businesses that are into selling a process. Things like coaching or healing. An internal process that supports an inner sense of well-being. Perhaps it even results in action, but in many cases is just about feeling better. I don’t mean to […]

Gotta Get Goals

I was tagged by Dave Schoof of Engaging the Disquiet about top goals in my life, as part of a meme. I’ve been watching this thread go ’round some blogs recently, and I think it’s fascinating. It seems it’s been pushing people to really think about their lives, instead of living unconsciously. At the same […]

Comfort, Comfort, Comfort… Queen!

Jennifer Louden has been my client for quite some time, and she is amazing. Honest, direct, and unquenchable in her pursuit of her own truth and authenticity.

One of the amazing things about having a business like mine is I have clients all over the globe. The down side is rarely do we get to actually meet in person.

Jennifer was in Portland the other day promoting her newest book The Life Organizer, and so we had dinner, and I also heard her speak at New Renaissance.

In person, just relaxing and having dinner she’s a great. But, let me tell you, speaking, she is a transmission machine. What do I mean by that?

I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say No

One of the members of the Business Oasis, our online heart-centered business community, started a conversation about the drain that helping other people has on her. “I’m just a girl who can’t say no,” she told us.

Electric response! It seems many people have this same issue. Of course we do.

We want to help. We want to be liked. We want to be useful. And, we’re all so used to coping with our own problems, that it seems a small thing to just suppress our own needs a little longer to help out another human.

The ticking time bomb.

Well, I’m assuming that you’re like me, and that years of suppressing needs has coiled the spring tighter and tighter. Suddenly, it seems as if life is just living from one time-bomb to the next, always ready to explode into overwhelm.

And still, still, still we don’t say “No” when we need to. We get sick, we collapse, we hide, rather than saying “No.”

Okay, it’s not always that bad. But… sometimes it is.

Besides, isn’t “No” a spiritual no-no?

Isn’t everyone always telling you to say “Yes” and accept what the Divine brings you? Aren’t we supposed to be of service? Isn’t selfishness a sin?

Well, yeah, kinda. But, not ‘zackly.

Saying no is actually an important skill in your business. Read this article.

Why Valuing Yourself More Can Shut Down Your Business

Those creepy-crawly doubts of competence and confidence can knock you flat. “Am I really worth it?” “Can I really charge this much?” “Am I any good at what I do?”

It’s normal to think those things, and I bet you do, too.

As normal as they are, they can paralyze you. Make you shy to offer help to people. Turn you into a shrinking wallflower, hiding your light under a double-thick wool blanket.

But, there’s an answer: just work on valuing yourself more!

BZZZZZZZZ- wrong answer.

Trying to value yourself more can bring a whole host of problems. Read this article.

Time for some appreciation.

If You Resist Marketing, Then You Can Be Great At It

“I’ve tried to market myself for years. I’ve worked with coaches, counselors and healers of all stripes. They all tell me I need to work through my resistance to marketing, and yet I still hate it.” My heart was breaking. I was speaking with someone who had the seeds of an amazing business, one that […]
