When you’ve tried and failed,
demystifying how businesses develop
A free webinar with Tanya Taylor Rubinstein and Mark Silver, M.Div
Recorded: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025
So many people put really sincere effort, sometimes over years… and yet the business doesn’t gain traction.
And can you develop something that is authentic to you, or does it just need to be a carbon-copy of someone else’s?
There’s a lot that goes into getting a tiny, or solo, business off the ground. And it’s heart-breaking when a bunch of work goes in and you don’t make any progress.
Often people think something is wrong with them, or have a spiritual issue that is blocking them, or that something is just broken.
Rarely is that true. We want to share a developmental model for heart-centered, spiritually-oriented business development that allows for a great deal of creativity, and brings clarity to the business journey.
From Tanya:
When I first went looking for a business coach a dozen years ago, I met Mark Silver. I was immediately struck by his kindness, warmth, and intelligence. We became Facebook friends, but it strangely never occurred to me to reach out to him as a potential coach.
Instead, I ended up chasing my tail with big-name “gurus” who over-promised, overcharged, and seriously under-delivered. Burned out and still feeling like I was spinning my wheels, I finally circled back to Mark and Heart of Business, and I’m incredibly grateful that I did.
Mark is the real deal, and his program delivers tremendous value. The resource library alone is worth its weight in gold. There are templates and videos on everything from building a website to identifying your ideal client to having ethical sales conversations. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Now that I’m in HOB, I honestly can’t imagine leaving. Even as a seasoned business owner, I always have new questions, and the ongoing community has been invaluable. Mark and his wife Holly create spaces that have increased my confidence, supported my nervous system, and are helping me build in a way that’s sustainable for the long run.
From Mark:
Tanya and I have known each other for quite some time, and I have a great respect for the work she’s doing with ancestors, and with memoirs. Both feel so important to bringing clarity and healing to our lives.
For the past 25 years, I’ve been helping spiritually-oriented business owners who really need to depend on their business to support them financially, and I want to make this, if not exactly, much easier than perhaps one has been led to believe.

What we’ll do in the webinar...
Name the Myths and the Reality
There are commonly-told myths about business development for spiritual-centered folks… and they just aren’t true. There is a reality to it that is worth naming, and it can bring a lot of compassion and relief.
Explain the Stages of Development
Tiny businesses, solo or just a handful of people involved, go through a different developmental process than larger businesses. I want to show you the model, so the terrain makes sense to you, and you can understand better where your business is and what it needs.
The tension with spirituality in business
There is a spiritual side to business development, and it’s nuanced. Spirituality does make a difference, but it does not work on the vending machine model- “put in a prayer, receive cookie.” I want to share the Sufi spiritual perspective on spiritual work in business.
