Hey folks,
This was the most challenging day yet of my two week video challenge (to get the big picture, and for a list of all the videos, check out day one). Today I had to prep for and teach a class, and I had to keep my word to myself about this video challenge. The narrow window of time I had to get it done means that I basically turned on the camera, sat down, and on camera rejected the first idea that came to my mind…
…which sparked what has been an important insight and understanding I’ve gained around making a business. Simple, yes. Fun, not always. Check it out:
What’s your relationship to this message?

Thanks for showing up again today, Mark! And I loved how you flipped today’s feelings into a broader-level discussion of life and biz.
Now I want to do a video challenge. See what you’ve done?
Well, I’m nothing if not a trouble maker. π
Thank you Mark. I’m hugely inspired by your video challenge precisely because of the need to show up. And I love how you’ve crafted the video to enjoy the ‘meh’ and allow it to speak. Always a good strategy. π Thanks again!
So glad to hear that! I’m still waiting on the next karaoke bit…
Hi Mark,
I too, am loving your video challenge. You are inspiring me to try one for myself!
I also particularly appreciate this one on the wisdom of “Meh” and how important it is to just continue to show up in business, in relationship, in life, in health, in our relationship to spirit… even when, and ESPECIALLY when the ego just wants everything to be easy and feel like a day at the beach.
Being a fellow Virgo I understand this one in my bones, but sometimes I feel like I’m somehow missing the mark when I find myself doing MANY things simply because they need to be done… not because they are fun or even particularly fulfilling.
But doing these things makes my business AND my life work… and work well. So I know they are important.
It’s just nice to get the support and permission from the outside to embrace this part of my life.
Thanks… as always for your wisdom and courage.
You have been showing up for a long time, my friend. I’m so glad to see you doing it.
i think this video has spoken to me the most. as always i love the honesty, and then i loved watching the honest meh transform into an inspired message.
and the message is really speaking to me personally, and is shining a light on a fear i’ve been examining today – so thank you.
It’s always funny to me to see which ones land. Glad my meh was so helpful.
this is why you are my friend – this right here buddy boy. You are my showing up hero.
It’s all done with mirrors. π
So good – even meh-taphysical, meh-tamorhosizing, and meh-eaningful.
Thank you,
E
Beeeyooooteeefulll….
Hi Mark,
This video resonated for me. Thanks for reminding us of the importance of turning up and following through in a full hearted way, even when we feel “meh”.
I go through times when it feels like I’m plodding along on what I call the “molasses track” (maybe it should be the “meh-lasses” track). I turn up–but in a half-hearted way and yes the ego starts day dreaming about being elsewhere. I’ve found that I’m sometimes able to get myself off the meh-lasses track if I give myself permission to take a break to do some inner work and ask for guidance from the Divine or from my heart-self before returning to the task.
Thank you and bright blessings to you.
The meh-lasses track… love it. That’s something right there. For me it’s always a balance of whether I need to stop and ask, or whether the asking is in taking the steps… first one, then the other, then back to the first…
Mark,
I’ve enjoyed your video challenge so far and this video was especially meaningful to me. Thanks for reminding us that even when we don’t feel the fire and passion about the stuff we need to do, it doesn’t mean that we’re not on the “right” path for us…in business or relationship or anything, really… Maybe we just need to feel passion about the larger commitment/purpose itself…
Aha! That’s the point my wife said I didn’t emphasize strongly enough. Glad it came across anyway.
This video showed you living your message. The intent and blessing of your message came through beautifully after you smiled and opened up saying “forget about enjoyable, just for a little bit”…
You pulled it off and married the mind with the heart. “Show up in a way that your heart will be proud.” I like that, although sometimes it is tricky to differentiate if it is the mind or the heart that is proud, and joy can be an indication of where one’s motivation is coming from.
Thank goodness I pulled it out. All those years of teaching and I can usually pull something out of somewhere… π
So good, Mark. Life is about engagement with life, not escape from life. And self employment is one of the deepest engagements with life there is. We are directly connected to our livelihood.
As you say, sometimes the time to sow, tend, or harvest comes when you’re tired or uninspired. At those times we can surrender to our commitment (rather than insisting that the commitment lift us up) and take the next indicated step.
Thank you for modeling this!
Oh, you are the far better model, Molly. You have been such a model of integrity, persistence, and follow-through. I’m cowed… no, I’m inspired… no, cowed… no, inspired!
Mark,
I intended only to take a quick look at your video experiment and here I am, at video six and leaving a comment. Wow! It’s raining, I’m way too tired. And there’s a phone call I need to return that I’m ambivalent about. Your message to Show Up couldn’t be more timely.
And your message of creating content for one’s business – wonderful!
The concept of your experiment is valuable and watching you go through the process adds more value.
You are very articulate and appear relaxed. Your messages strike me as coming from a centered and true place. I’m drawn to your talks. And there is so much information bombardment these days that much goes by outside of my attention.
Thank you. You’ve gotten my attention in a big way.
Mo
Right on! My little experiment is evidently adding something. I just wanted to post them to make sure I actually followed through. I’m glad they are adding something, too.
Thanks for showing up, Mark!
Tomorrow, I’m making a video. The first for my blog.
I don’t know what I’m gonna talk about, I don’t even know if I’ll post it (I don’t want that pressure right now), but tomorrow, I’m setting the tripod and camera and I’m recording something. Be afraid! π
Woo-hoo! I’m so glad to hear that. I hope you do post it.
Thanks, Mark.
Well, I did record something, but haven’t had the nerve to actually watch the last version on the computer.
Not ready to post, but I think I will try a few times without pressure, then I’ll do some to post.
I did it that way too, Sylvain. It’s been a couple of years I’ve been working up to this. There are some unposted videos on my hard drive, from those past months… π
Glad to hear I’m not the only one π
Thanks Mark.
Ill be making a video tomorrow for one of my blogs
