In this video I tell a bit of a vulnerable story in my learning around issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, and there is a very direct connection to marketing that I wanted to bring to you.
In the video, I’m especially thankful to Nicole Lee , a human rights lawyer and coach who is doing tremendous work around DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). I’m going to be attending her Accelerator weekend in October. Love this, Mark. What you say about the “good morning” ritual among different ethnic groups is so true. I live in Guyana right now, a land of six ethnicities coming together and living in relative harmony for the most part. It is very customary to offer a formal “good morning” or “good afternoon” or “good evening” at every encounter. Even on text! (When texting it’s GM or Evening before you start your next bit.) I’ve remarked on this custom before to other expats and how it’s such a lovely way to acknowledge people.
I also appreciate your message of leading with generosity. There is nothing but wonderful things that come from doing so.
This message really touched me, Mark! Your words remind me of something my mentor said – that we all long ‘to exist in another’s presence.’ Being willing to reach out first is a way to acknowledge that sacred connection and desire we all share. Thank you for the beautiful reminder.

There are places in life where I have done this naturally, and it always feels so good… yet had been unable to see the similarity of this with marketing, have been stuck in fear of bothering people, rejection, etc… Your message is a very helpful way to look from another, much more loving perspective.
