[Video] What personality-driven businesses need to survive

Awhile ago I wrote an article about alternatives to niching, that was really me urging you to focus on niching.

But then, I read an article by my friend and colleague Dusti Arab on Personality-Driven Brands.

The article didn’t really change my mind, but it did open my eyes and heart to what would make the alternative work. So I did what any self-respecting person would do: I reached out to Dusti and asked, “Can we talk about this?”

Dusti, who helps people create and launch online courses at TheReinventionCo, and has had a personality-driven business that has resisted clear niching for years, agreed.

So, here’s the thirty minute romp through what it really takes to do the personality business rather than niching… See which camp you end up in.

I highly recommend Dusti. She’s sharp, smart, ethical as all get-out, and tech-saavy, and I’ve seen her be successful with a wide variety of businesses, clients, and approaches

You can find her here.

And on Facebook here.

Where do you end up? Are you finally convinced to try niching? 😉

  1. Thanks for sharing this important topic ofWhat personality-driven businesses need to survive. Keep writing we love your Content.

  2. Thank you Dusti and Mark!

The clarity, as Mark said, has been incredibuly helpful!

Listening to this conversation, I realized that I had a personality driven brand the first 6 or 7 years I was in business. By working consistenly for those years, my business was starting to get a lot of momentum, and I was getting national exposure for my work.

But it wasn’t the right fit for me, and as my business grew, I liked my work less and less. I eventually shut down my business for a few years to focus on my family.

I can see the personality driven brand was not the best fit for me – I don’t enjoy social media, and I like the introvert model of going within and then coming out with a new offer or book.

Now that I know how to do a niche driven brand – and why – I feel more inspired about creating a business that is a better fit.

Thank you both – I learned a lot from this conversation.

  5. Totally agreed with Dusti. If you build a brand on negativity, guess what you are going to attract?
Yes, in today’s world you need to be positive – if you conceive it, believe it and are willing to receive it – you can achieve the height of giants.

Another way for retailers to optimize their business after Covid 19 is to apply a Point of sale system into their progress.

In my opinion, a point-of-sale system contains all the elements you need to start an e-commerce business (tech, customer service, online web, payment gateways, sales, stock, customer pattern analysis). Therefore, applying a POS into your process can be a great of use.
