When your groups veer into individual therapy with onlookers

So… this seems a little outside the scope of “business development from the heart,” but the truth is that facilitating groups is one of the (not the only) major options to help a micro business be more impactful and make more money. Unfortunately, these groups can go very badly, especially if you are doing coaching, healing, or any kind of transformational work in a group setting.

The most common is when someone in the group has a deep or tangled issue that needs help, and you end up getting pulled into doing what is basically an individual session with spectators, and it feels only partly effective for the one person, boring or disconnected for at least some of the group members, and just kind of inappropriate.

All of that is avoidable.

I’ve been teaching/facilitating groups for 30 years now, from long before I started Heart of Business, and I want to share my favorite strategy for avoiding falling into these situations, what I do instead, and how to do it without shaming anyone.

I made a short video to talk it through.

I hope this gives you some insight into how to better run a true group, rather than individual sessions with an audience.

Do you have a favorite strategy for dealing with this? Or questions?

The Heart of Money and Power!

Last year, for the first time, I introduced teachings around a healthy relationship with power into the Heart of Money program.

The feedback I heard bowled me over (unsurprising- a lot of power in that! chuckle…)

What I’m seeing in the world around me now is such intense energy. So many people are feeling powerless and misunderstood, and there is incredible amounts of divisiveness and fear.

In times of hope, we need caution to so we can stay awake. In times of fear and overwhelm, we need hope and nourishment.

Accessing the power in your heart, and understanding how to have a healthy relationship with money and power both, will not just help your business, but it will help you contribute to the world.

Won’t you join me for this 9 session program, priced as always at pay-from-the-heart. It will be deeply impactful.

Those that register early get a bonus class happening November 30.

  1. Thank you, Mark!

Many facilitators (especially trainers) seem to have a hard time not coming off as disparaging/shaming/discouraging… or incredibly vague.

From my years of experience teaching, I know that your method feels really stress-relieving to EVERYONE, including the facilitator/teacher!
One big thing in the way of this, is any internal dynamic in the facilitator who fears the participant WON’T get the help or CAN’T afford it.

You’ve done this with me many times, and I love and trust you and your containers MORE for it ♥
You clearly heed the deeper call to help everyone present recognize the importance of meeting deep, perhaps even urgent-feeling needs, and promise ourselves appropriate care.
    Thank you for unpacking this,
    naming it,
and most of all, living it.
