Gentleness as power and medicine, in business and life

Something I noticed recently in our clients is how used up people are feeling, how difficult it is to feel clear, especially given the political environment, especially here in the U.S.

I had another message about marketing that I was going to send out, and I will, in due course, but this week it feels to me like a different medicine is needed.

Gentleness as power.

How does this land on your heart? What do you notice? What becomes possible?

With love,

  1.  Thank you. I worked with queer and/or homeless youth in the streets and youth centers of Chicago for 13+ years, and I was only scared for my safety twice. Once it was a young person I didn’t know who got mad at me during a card game and I didn’t know what he was capable of.

The other time was a young man who disliked me, even hated me. It had something to do with masculinity and the role of men in his life. One day he showed up to the van with a baseball bat and threatened to beat me with it. I was scared because I knew what he was capable of.  I don’t remember the details but th team got me out of there to safety.

Later, months or maybe a couple years, he came to me and told me that I was the kind of man he wanted to be.

Over the years I knew him I was always gentle. I had boundaries and they were firm and compassionate. My way was different than the men he had been exposed to and it confounded him. With my gentle consistency and consistent gentleness, and boundaries, he came to new conceptions of what it can be mean to be a man. I got through to him.

         Gentleness wins. Love and blessings.
