For the Sake of Visibility…
I just wanted to use my blog to add to the visibility around death threats made to blogger Kathy Sierra
I posted this comment on her blog:
“I echo many of the already spoken sentiments, and I completely support whatever choices you need to make for your own health and sanity.
I also want to say, as someone who worked as a paramedic for years, as well as in various activist causes, that one of the things that I’m feeling inspired about this situation is the incredible support, visibility and response.
In the past, without the internet, without an interconnected community of readers that can easily respond, something like this would ordinarily be invisible, and instead it becomes VERY visible- and the trail is readily traced back to folks responsibile, or to folks who know who is responsible.
That is an incredible amount of transparency. I know it may do very little for your own feeling safety and sanity, but I rejoice, thinking of folks I saw who had been assaulted silently, hidden in their rooms, with no one except paramedics and police to see what happened, and no way to get publicity, because what- the newspaper is going to publish it in any way that creates compassion and connection? No, they aren’t.
So, my prayers and thoughts for you and a graceful resolution to this entire situation. And my appreciation for everyone who is helping to make this situation visible. The more visibility, the better.”
I also want to add my prayer that the person or people making death threats to her, that they find their own deeper needs, and get them fulfilled in ways that are healthy to everyone involved.

Okay, okay… I Get It
I have resisted blogging for a long time. Well… resisted isn’t exactly the right word.
I had my own strategies for connecting with folks, and building my business from my heart. I had seen and experienced blogging as a really fun and interesting way to connect, and a bit of a time-waster, too.
I’m convinced. My friend and colleague Dawud Miracle, as well as a bunch of people from The Business Oasis (our heart-centered online business community), have shown me the power of blogging. Yea, I am a believer.
So, I’m going to start being in conversation in the larger world.
What convinced me? A two things.
I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say No
One of the members of the Business Oasis, our online heart-centered business community, started a conversation about the drain that helping other people has on her. “I’m just a girl who can’t say no,” she told us.
Electric response! It seems many people have this same issue. Of course we do.
We want to help. We want to be liked. We want to be useful. And, we’re all so used to coping with our own problems, that it seems a small thing to just suppress our own needs a little longer to help out another human.
The ticking time bomb.
Well, I’m assuming that you’re like me, and that years of suppressing needs has coiled the spring tighter and tighter. Suddenly, it seems as if life is just living from one time-bomb to the next, always ready to explode into overwhelm.
And still, still, still we don’t say “No” when we need to. We get sick, we collapse, we hide, rather than saying “No.”
Okay, it’s not always that bad. But… sometimes it is.
Besides, isn’t “No” a spiritual no-no?
Isn’t everyone always telling you to say “Yes” and accept what the Divine brings you? Aren’t we supposed to be of service? Isn’t selfishness a sin?
Well, yeah, kinda. But, not ‘zackly.
