[Video Guest] Making networking fun

Mark SilverA past client, colleague and friend Leif Hansen, the Spark Guy, is our guest author this week. Leif does tremendous work with organizations and individuals around bringing spark and creativity into your work.

Part of his background is in improv, and I did a stellar workshop with him some years ago, up in Seattle. I was impressed at how he held the group, how useful the work was, and how FUN it was! Yes! And he’s only gotten better with time.

I asked him to say something about playful networking, about reaching out proactively to people, because of something he posted in our Community, and I think he gets to the heart of it here.

It’s about 5 minutes. He’ll be around on the blog to answer any questions you have.

If you want to find out more about Leif, and I recommend you do, you can find him here: www.sparkguy.com

  1. Thanks for the opportunity to share this game with your network Mark. The result for me, which I really should have shared in the video, has been an increased confidence around networking/marketing/sales calls, more aliveness and joy with the process, 3 new clients in the last few weeks, a dozen prospects, 2 collaborations and many fun and stimulating conversations.

You just can’t beat real time conversations.

If any of you readers want some extra tips, a ‘calling outline’ cheat sheet or other support, feel free to contact me at SparkGuy.com 🙂

  2. Hi Leif, thanks for the video. I’m curious how you handle any awkwardness that arises from the calls. Do people ever respond negatively to you calling them up out of the blue? Calling seems so old-fashioned these days!

  3. Hi Marta,
Great question. First I’d say “Awkwardness is in the mind of the beholder” 😉

But seriously, if you’re connected to your heart and the heart of your business, then I don’t think there’s any need to feel awkward. People still use phones, you’ll still ask the person if it’s an appropriate time to talk, they’ll feel the attraction of your genuine interest, curiosity & desire to serve. It’s all good!

But no, I’ve not yet had a ‘negative’ response. 🙂

Good luck with your connecting & adventuring and let me know if I can help in any way 🙂

    Warmly,
    Leif

  4. Such a fun, helpful post, Leif—thank you!

Love the guidance to start with one first person…connect before acting…and let go of an agenda or specific outcome. Haven’t played just yet, but plan on it!

  5. Good video, definitely taking this advice with me as i’m trying to expand my business network for my own local web designer company.
Bookmarked your website for the future 😉
