It’s Tuesday, and we just opened the doors to our new Learning Community. (Remember, the form is new, even while every single part of the Learning Community has been time tested over decades).
And I’m thinking of a phrase: “Love overcomes everything.” Does it? Does it, really?
It entirely depends on how we think of love.
If we think of love as generic greeting card messages, or of soft pillowy niceness, it’s hard to believe that can overcome everything.
But Love is so much more than that. Love can be powerful, it can be strong. Love can be the strength to stand up for what you believe in, even when so many other people have been telling you you’re wrong, you can’t do that, that’s not “how it works.”
According to my Sufi teachers, and my own heart, Love is the only path worth following. It’s the only viable path I see through this mess of an economy that we’re living in. Love has the power to heal and transform.
Building a business with love.
Love means you’re not alone. It means you have people cheering you on, people you can lean into when you give a talk for the first time, and say what you believe instead of what you think people want to hear. Then several people in the audience actually come up to you with tears in their eyes wanting to work with you.
Love means the support you get to be courageous and tell your clients what it will take for them to get the help they actually need, instead of just letting them limp along with one session at a time whenever they feel like it… and their situation gets better, and they become a raving fan sending you referrals! (Plus the weekly sessions they were coming to and paying you for.)
Love means the feeling of a full heart as you take on doing (or redoing) your website with a message you believe in. It means having people around who can cheer you on as you do it, giving you tips and advice on how to do things affordably and effectively. And then you *finally* have a website you feel great about when it launches.
Moreover, people who see it tell you how much your message means to them, and some become clients… just from having visited your website!
Love isn’t a distant, theoretical “thoughts and prayers.” Love is having friends who roll up their sleeves with you and get down into your business, giving you encouragement, guidance, insights, and care while you take on the miraculous task of creating your own livelihood from scratch.
