How We Communicate with Each Other
This morning I read the latest top article by Jenny Davidow on Biznik: You Had Me at Hello: 5 Ways to Communicate Beneath the Words. I rarely read these articles. This one stood out though because ways to master genuine, healthy communication in any situation perks up my ears. And in my work at Heart of Business, facilitating and working on healthy communication is core to my purpose.
I had a third business meeting with someone yesterday outside of Heart of Business and cried most of my way home. I realized to what extent we were not connecting, that the words she spoke were measured, clear, and relevant, but she wasn’t really with me, getting me, adjusting to the me in her agenda. And I did not feel safe enough, and our time was limited to 50 minutes, to work through the disconnect.
Gratefully this time I recognized the problem and was able to understand that it wasn’t all mine. In fact, I had enough perspective to neither blame her or myself and decided that the relationship was not a good fit.
Then I read Jenny’s article and experienced so much validation for what I had experienced. After that I read Dawud Miracle’s thread: A Public Apology. My heart was so heartened.
Sometimes we can get so caught up in our marketing strategies and copywriting techniques, and ways of operating, we forget the natural ways of simply communicating with heart, of seeing each other, to connecting, to responding to invitations and offering them simply because it feels good and right.
Give it a read, couple it with Mark’s article this week. Lot of good fodder for us heart-centered businesses.
