This was something my friend, colleague and spiritual brother Dawud wrote on his blog back in February.
I’m one of those top five referrers, and I’m willingly eating my hat. Dawud has turned me around, and he’s going to be integrating this blog into the overall design of my site in the next week or so.
It did take real data to turn my head. My business already has a certain amount of momentum, and I already have more than enough projects on my plate.
But what has changed my mind isn’t just the data that he shared with me about the effects his blogging is having on business. That’s great and all, but if you know me, ‘effectiveness in business’ is only one way I look at business strategies.
They also have to match my heart. And what I’ve learned about blogging is that it will enable me to be as generous as I want to be.
My weekly article is a very focused form of giving to my readers, and I’ve always felt that putting a lot of recommendations in there for other products and services distracts from the simple, practical, implementable, and hopefully inspiring articles I’ve been sharing.
But… the blog is different. It’s more informal. It’s a conversation. I can tell you all about Jennifer Louden, Dave Schoof, or Dawud himself, without feeling like I’m distracting people.
Anyone else? What has turned your head about blogging?
