Scheduling and integrating spiritual business insights

On the road of business, clients often have big spiritual realizations. Just recently, a client had a big insight around her relationship to spiritual surrender, strength, and taking up space.

It was profound and, in my opinion, really critical for her next phase of business development.

However, the challenge with these kinds of realizations is that they aren’t actionable. When you have strategic things to do in business, “Write your home page,” “Craft a free offer,” “Find and hire a bookkeeper,” they can be plugged into your calendar, and the steps involved can be clear and done.

But spiritual insights and healing? “Surrender more.” “Trust.” “Bring love to your marketing.”

Although these are states of being, if they aren’t brought into the world of action, you may not integrate them, so then they’ll fade, and the benefits of the insight will be lost.

Oops.

Inner and outer. Structure and being.

It’s common in some circles to say that the inner comes before the outer, meaning that the inner state arrives before outer results.

However, this isn’t true all the time. Spiritual states are often supported by outer structures. We see this in different spiritual paths, where practices are prescribed to the student, in order to access, maintain and deepen certain inner realities.

In Islam, for example, there are five prayers every day, on a schedule. Sure, you can do them mechanically, and get little benefit from them. Or you can take them as an opportunity to be reminded to connect your heart.

Same with Judaism, three prayers a day. The Catholic Offices, that go around the clock, or Buddhist schedule of meditating at least twice a day, morning and night.

Because spiritual insights don’t come with a strategic plan, the way to make them real is to put them on your calendar.

Not the having of the realization, because that can’t be scheduled. But once the realization or healing arrives in your heart, then scheduling time to spend with it, to help integrate it, is essential.

What I have clients do.

My client who had the realization about surrender, strength, and taking up space? There was a particular part of her business, an offer she had been working on that she had been having trouble completing, where these insights were particularly relevant.

I asked her to calendar time to be with these insights in the context of her offer. To take time to let her heart soak in the insights, and to look at the offer in light of that, and hopefully to do that several times over the course of a week or two.

When we see insights manifested in actions we take, in things we create, then they become real.

I learned from my Sufi teachers that healing may happen in part at the soul level, but the physical world is not excluded from the Divine presence, and that healing needs to also be seen in the details.

When we give time in our calendar and bring the soul or heart-level healing to specific instances of our business, then the integration happens, then healing can happen at all levels. Rather than you just having a wonderful feeling for awhile, your business begins to carry those insights, and real changes happen.

Any insights you can calendar?

Have you have any healing in the recent past, any insights or realizations? What if you took a minute right now to find time on the calendar, and schedule an appointment so you can integrate your insight with a relevant part of your business? How good does that feel?

I’d love to hear what insights you’ve had and what parts of your business you want to integrate with them!
